The present invention relates to coatings that possess a dynamic contact angle hysteresis in water, measured by means of a Wilhelmy balance according to DIN EN 14370, of at most 15°, and are can be manufactured from star-shaped prepolymers and/or star-shaped prepolymer-nanoparticle complexes that are cross-linkable with one another and with the surface of the substrate to be coated, the star-shaped prepolymers and/or star-shaped prepolymer-nanoparticle complexes possessing, before being cross-linked, at least three hydrophilic polymer arms that, considered of themselves, are soluble in water, and that carry on all or on some of their free ends R1 silyl terminal groups of the following general formula (I): R1 is —CRa2—Si(ORb)r(Rc)3-r, where Ra denotes hydrogen or a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, ORb denotes a hydrolyzable group, Rc denotes a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and r denotes a number from 1 to 3, and that carry, on the optionally present ends not carrying silyl terminal groups, reactive groups that are reactive with respect to themselves, the substrate to be coated, entities optionally introduced into the coating, and/or with the silyl terminal groups. The present invention furthermore relates to a method for manufacturing such coatings, and to star-shaped prepolymers that are used in the coatings. The invention moreover relates to use of the star-shaped prepolymers as additives to various agents for temporary or permanent anti-soiling finishing of surfaces.

A one component, moisture-cure, colorless or colored, protective or decorative high-build lensing or doming resin system is described. Use of these polymer systems have the advantage of eliminating the mixing, handling, and high toxicity associated with standard two-component epoxy or polyurethane lensing resins, or one-component ultraviolet cured systems.

A film-forming coating composition, typically a topcoat, having improved adhesion. The composition includes a film-forming binder comprising a carbamate material, a curing agent, typically a melamine curing agent, and a hydroxy functional silane component. When used as a clearcoat over a standard pigmented basecoat, the resulting coating provides excellent adhesion to both windshield sealants and additional repair coatings.

A primer composition showing good adhesion to the surface of a substrate, such as a glass substrate, and excellent in weather resistance and water resistance as well as a method of effecting adhesion is provided. The primer composition is characterized by comprising a saturated hydrocarbon polymer having at least one silicon-containing group which has hydroxyl or hydrolyzable group bound to the silicon atom and capable of crosslinking under formation of a siloxane bond.

Curable compositions comprising stable, water dispersible, curable polymers containing sterically hindered alkoxylated silane groups and acid groups blocked by fugitive bases at 0.1 to 75 weight percent of the total composition and water at 99.9 to 25 weight percent of the total composition are taught herein, as well as methods for the use and manufacture thereof. Additional components, such as emulsifiers, buffers and thickeners are also taught. These compositions are useful as adhesives, sealants and paints. The compositions have improved properties including solvent resistance, adhesion, hardness, abrasion resistance and mar resistance.
