摘要:
Aqueous alkaline solid electrolyte comprising a polar polymer matrix which is solid at ambient temperature, and a compound or mixture of basic compounds selected from alkaline metal, alkaline-earth or ammonium hydroxides. Preferably, the matrix is a polyether homopolymer or copolymer of different ethers or polyethers. The invention also concerns electrodes and/or electrochemical generators containing such an alkaline polymer solid electrolyte.

A cadmium electrode for use in a rechargeable cell employing an alkaline electrolyte is disclosed. The electrode includes an electrically conductive substrate supporting an electrochemically active cadmium material. In addition, an effective amount of a nonionic, water soluble glycoside-based surfactant is added to retard cadmium agglomeration during operation of the electrode. Finally, a process for making such an electrode is also disclosed.

This invention relates to a novel anode for use in batteries, and to batteries containing the anode, which anode comprises an alloy of sodium and one or more metallic or non-metallic materials other than mercury.
摘要:
A cadmium electrode for use in rechargeable alkaline cells is disclosed featuring use of dispersed polyamide having specific properties. The polyamide serves as a binder as well as an anti-agglomerant to retard cadmium agglomeration during use of the electrode. The use of elemental silver additive dispersed throughout the electrode is also disclosed, as is the use of zirconium material as an elecrolyte wicking and anti-compressive agent. A process for making any of the foregoing electrodes is disclosed featuring the step of forming a paste by mixing together the polymeric resin, active cadmium material and a non-aqueous solvent, applying the paste to a conductive substrate and removing the solvent. Alternatively, known prefabricated cadmium electrodes, such as Teflon-bonded or sintered types, are post-treated through dipping or the like in a solution of the aforementioned polyamide.

This invention relates to a grid for a lead storage battery which comprises a network unit (5) formed from a lead alloy sheet (1) of a first alloy layer (2) of a lead-calcium alloy and a second alloy layer (3) of a lead-tin alloy having a higher concentration of tin than the first alloy layer, the first alloy layer (2) and the second alloy layer (3) being exposed at slits of the network unit. The use of such a grid can provide a lead storage battery which has both good maintenance-free characteristics inherent to the lead-calcium alloy and good recovery after overdischarge resulting from the second alloy having a high concentration of tin. Thus, the storage battery is highly reliable.
摘要:
A cadmium electrode for a rechargeable alkaline cell comprises a rigid substrate having particle-receiving recesses therein into and upon which are pressed a particulate mix of binder coated cadmium oxide particles and cadmium particles which constitute an active precharge anti-fading constituent of the mix. The binder coating may be a substantially insulating material, in which case the cadmium particles in various places are pressed into the substrate so that they penetrate through the binder coating to make direct contact with the cadmium oxide particles. The binder is most advantageously a curable butadiene polymer binder coating on the cadmium oxide particles preferably formed by heating an initial slurry of an emulsion of the binder and cadmium oxide particles to vaporize the liquid carrier and at least partially cure the binder material.

Electrodes using essentially insoluble active material are disclosed which can be used in a variety of electrochemical cells and rechargeable accumulators. Plastic materials are used to ensure porosity and strength and to sinter the electrode ingredients and active material together. Details of the essentially insoluble compound active material are disclosed and of an electrolyte recommended for use with the electrodes. Aspects of this invention are applicable particularly to Ni-Cd, Ag-Cd, Ag-Zn, Ni-Fe, Ni-Zn, Metal-Air, fuel or solar cells.

The subject invention is related to a battery grid formed from stock material having an open network and an unopen portion thereon wherein the unopen portion lies centrally thereon and the open network portions are of greater thickness than the unopen portion, said open network portions being provided with nodes, said grid being formed by continuously advancing the stock material along a predetermined path, forming spaced apart cut out portions on said unopen portion and simultaneously working the open network portions to orient and size the same whereby the faces of the nodes are displaced. The instant invention also relates to the battery grid so formed, the grid itself comprising a metal grid structure defining a header and a lug connecting section thereon, an open network structure depending from the header over the entire length thereof, said open network being provided with nodes having elements projecting therefrom to define cells, said nodes having a trapezoidal cross section.
摘要:
Lightweight grids for lead-sulfuric acid type storage batteries are characterized by their laminated reticulated open meshed portions for retaining chemically active, lead-based paste materials. The laminated portions comprise a support layer of a rigid or semi-rigid plastic, an electrically conductive lead foil layer coextensive with the plastic layer, and a sulfuric acid resistant adhesive bonding layer between the plastic support and foil layers. In a preferred embodiment, the grid wires and nodes are twisted relative to the principal plane of the grid so that the lead foil layer is oriented to face the grid header portion and act as a ledge for retaining a desired battery paste. Such laminated grids may be rapidly and inexpensively formed by expanded metal processes of the type used to make battery grids made entirely of lead.
