    摘要: A field emission display includes: a substrate (11); cathode electrodes (21) formed on the substrate; a plurality of emitters formed on the cathode electrodes; a barrier array (41) defining a plurality of openings (42) therethrough according to a pixel pattern, the barrier array comprising a shadow mask with an insulative layer (43) formed thereon, the barrier array being fixed to the substrate; gate electrodes (51) formed on the barrier array; and a phosphor screen (70) spaced from the substrate. This field emission display employs the known technology for making a shadow mask in the field of CRTs. In addition, the thickness and the material of the insulative layer can be determined according to the insulative performance required for the field emission display. In summary, the present invention provides a field emission display having a high precision, and low production cost barrier array.

    摘要: A field emission type display device has a structure in which each pixel is constituted of a combination of a plurality of small apertures and a plurality of small electron sources. Due to such a constitution, it is possible to reduce undesired impact of electrons on control electrodes and the enhancement of the heat resistance of the carbon nanotubes of electron sources, whereby it is possible to obtain a display device of high quality and long lifetime, while exhibiting a high-performance electron emission characteristic. Boron (B) is adhered to carbon nanotubes, which constitute electron sources, through the small apertures of the control electrodes; and, hence, the alignment of the small apertures and the small electron sources is ensured and the area of the electron source is set to be equal to or less than the area of the aperture.

    摘要: A method of producing a cathode for use in an x-ray tube assembly is provided including machining an emission aperture into a cup emission surface portion of a cup structure. The cup structure is comprised of a cup base portion opposite the cup emissions surface portion. Electro-discharge machining is used to form an electro-discharge machining slot into the cup structure to provide access to the interior of the cup structure. Electro-discharge machining is used to form a transverse coil chamber within the interior by way of the electro-discharge machining slot such that the transverse coil chamber is formed between the cup base portion and the cup emissions surface portion while retaining an essentially contiguous emissions surface perimeter surrounding the emission aperture.

    摘要: An evacuated enclosure in the form of a cylindrical cavity having a dielectric located therein defines a dielectric guide for transporting an electron beam introduced into the cavity. The dielectric, which is disposed about the cavity wall, is operative to trap the charge associated with normal vacuum expansion of the electron beam. The trapped charge, in cases where the injected electron beam is not space charge limited, modifies the electric fields within the cavity in such a way as to provide focusing forces on the electron beam propogating through the cavity, the focusing forces being sufficient to guide a major portion of the beam through the enclosure without attenuation. Within the injected beam is space charge limited, the trapped charge induces an electrical discharge -- either surface flashover or volume puncture of the dielectric -- which liberates gaseous material. This gas then ionizes, is attracted by space charge electric fields into the body of the beam, and provides space charge neutralization. In this situation the beam is confirmed by its self-magnetic field and propogates through the cavity with little attenuation.

The carbon electrode is composed of carbon which is homogeneously mixed with an amount of an incandescent material in a proportion of 6 to 12 weight percent of the total weight of the carbon and incandescent material together, and then molded into the shape of the electrode. The surface of the carbon electrode, exclusive of the top thereof, is provided with a copper or other metal coating.
