Abstract:
A family of customizable tethering molecules for tethering cofactors such as, but not necessarily limited to, nicotinamine adenine dinucleotide (NAD+/NADH, NAD(P)+/NAD(P)H) to substrates or structures formed from or including graphene-like materials is described. The tethered cofactor can then be used, for example, as biosensors employed for clinical diagnostic, food industry, medical drug development and environmental and military applications, as well as in reagentless biofuel cells for power generation.

Abstract:
An optoelectronic device configured to operate at an electromagnetic radiation frequency having metal wire electrodes that are optically transparent as a result of the wires having an effective plasma frequency that is equal to or lower than the electromagnetic frequency at which the device operates. The effective plasma frequency of the wire is lowered by configuring the path of the wire between the terminal ends to be meandering, serpentine, U-shaped and in other non-linear configurations.
Abstract:
We describe ultra-high throughput polony genome sequencing that can permit, for example, generating raw data to re-sequencing the human genome in about one week (including library prep and sequencing) at a reasonable cost. The methods described herein include one or more of the following: (1) increasing polony sequencing read length, (2) improving library construction and emulsions protocols, (3) increasing bead density and/or moving to alternative clonal amplication strategies (other than emulsion PCR or ePCR), (4) extending software capabilities to allow SNP calls from our new sequencing raw data, (5) Dual Primer Emulsion PCR, and (6) diagnostic method exploiting one or more of the foregoing.
Abstract:
In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure, a maskless interferomeric lithography system for fabricating a three-dimensional (3D) photonic crystal using a multiple two-beam-exposures is disclosed. The system can comprise an illumination system comprising an optical arrangement operable to receive radiation from a radiation source and provide three or more tilted two-beam interference pattern exposures to be combined into a three-dimensional pattern; and a substrate operable to be supported by a substrate table, wherein the substrate comprises a photoresist formed on a top surface of the substrate and operable to receive the three-dimensional pattern and wherein means are provided to adjust the position of the substrate in all six mechanical degrees of freedom.
Abstract:
Novel catalytic materials and novel methods of preparing M—N—C catalytic materials utilizing a sacrificial support approach and using inexpensive active polymers as the carbon and nitrogen source and readily available metal precursors are described.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus embody a rotation sensor including one or more ring lasers designed to utilize a nonlinear Sagnac effect, a passive waveguide arrangement, and a photodetector arrangement to receive the outcoupled light and to detect rotation of the sensor; wherein these components are arranged into a monolithically integrated optoelectronic integrated circuit on a single substrate. The method and apparatus can include seeding a stable, rotation-insensitive, strong (driving) wave using a single-frequency edge emitting laser monolithically integrated on the same substrate.
Abstract:
A novel peptide sequence that is a modified derivative of a neuron-specific tyrosine phosphatase is shown and described. Specifically, the novel peptide sequence is a modified derivative of striatal-enriched tyrosine phosphatase (STEP). The peptide sequence has been modified so as to be able to ameliorate and treat brain injury resulting from excessive glutamate release and/or oxidative stress. Examples of the types of brain injury which the presently disclosed peptide sequence is useful for treating includes acute brain injury resulting from stroke or traumatic brain injury and chronic disorders such as Huntington's chorea and schizophrenia. Furthermore, the presently described peptide sequence may further be useful in the treatment and amelioration of disorders associated with fear memory such as post-traumatic stress disorder.

A thermal neutron detector and method employ Gd-containing nanoscintillators. Thermal neutron radiation is detected by observing scintillation events from the nanoscintillators.
Abstract:
A system and methods for high-speed functional magnetic resonance imaging using multi-slab echo-volumar imaging (EVI), specifically a combination of multi-slab excitation and single-shot 3D encoding with parallel imaging to reduce geometrical image distortion and blurring, and to increase blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) sensitivity compared to conventional echo-planar imaging (EPI).
