Abstract: An ophthalmic surgical instrument for peeling a retinal membrane includes a handle and an actuator mounted on the handle. A first arm and a second arm extend outwardly from a distal end of an outer tube mounted to the handle. The first arm includes a first pulling surface and a first gripping surface and the second arm includes a second pulling surface and a second gripping surface. The pulling surface of each arm is substantially perpendicular to the gripping surface of each arm and the gripping surfaces of the arms face one another. The first pulling surface and the second pulling surface move toward one another when the outer tube is extended over the first arm and the second arm in order to raise a flap of the retinal membrane that is then gripped between the first gripping surface and the second gripping surface.

Abstract: In certain embodiments, a system for sensing occlusions in an optical system includes a first laser source configured to generate optical signals and a set of optical elements arranged to receive the optical signals from the first laser source and to direct the optical signals along a beam path. The system also includes a detector arranged to receive reflections of the optical signals traveling along at least a portion of the beam path and a control system communicably coupled to the detector. The control system is configured to detect, based on signals generated by the detector, reflection signals associated with the reflections of the optical signals, and disable a second laser source based on detection of the reflection signals.

Abstract: Ophthalmic surgical systems and methods for displaying graphical user interfaces in ophthalmic surgical systems are disclosed. An example ophthalmic surgical system has alternative setup conditions, and a host computer is configured to detect the setup condition and to display on a display screen a graphical user interface corresponding to the detected setup condition. The alternative setup conditions may be based upon a configuration of an ophthalmic surgical console and/or based upon which type of fluidics cassette is installed on the ophthalmic surgical console. In some embodiments, the host computer is configured to display on the display screen a graphical user interface that graphically indicates the instrument ports that are available and/or that are not available for instrument connections in the detected setup condition.

Abstract: A system for guiding an ophthalmic procedure is disclosed. The system includes a housing assembly with a head unit configured to be at least partially directed towards a target site in an eye. An optical coherence tomography (OCT) module and stereoscopic visualization camera are at least partially located in the head unit and configured to obtain a first set and a second set of volumetric data, respectively. A controller is configured to register the first set and second set of volumetric data to create a third set of registered volumetric data. The third set and second set of registered volumetric data are rendered, via a volumetric render module, to a first and second region. The first region and the second region are overlaid to obtain a shared composite view of the target site. The controller is configured to extract structural features and/or enable visualization of the target site.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for integrating and optimizing a surgical suite. An ophthalmic suite can include a surgical console, a heads-up display communicatively coupled with a surgical camera for capturing a three-dimensional image of an eye, and a surgical suite optimization engine. The surgical suite optimization engine can performs a wide variety of actions in response to action codes received from the other components in the surgical suite. The surgical suite optimization engine can be integrated within another component of the surgical suite, can be a stand-alone module, and can be a cloud-based tool.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide for in-situ intraocular lens (IOL) tilt determination and for providing information associated with the angle of IOL tilt intraoperatively. An example method includes imaging an IOL within a patient's eye via an ophthalmic imaging device, in-situ, after implantation of the IOL within the patient's eye; processing the image of the IOL within the patient's eye to determine an angle of tilt of the IOL; and outputting information associated with the angle of IOL tilt to a user interface.

Abstract: A surgical microscope is configured to capture images of an eye of a patient and defines an optical axis. An illumination source is configured to emit a plurality of beams onto the eye of the patient at a plurality of angles relative to the optical axis. A controller is coupled to the surgical microscope and the illumination source, the controller configured to independently control values for illumination parameters for each beam of the plurality of beams to facilitate imaging of the eye of the patient. The illumination parameters may compensate for reflections from the iris, offset of the eye relative to the optical axis, and reflections of ambient light. The illumination parameters may be controlled subject to inputs received from a surgeon or other user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for reducing pulsations in peristaltic pumps. In some examples, a cassette comprises a cassette body and a flexible sheet joined to the cassette body, wherein a transition region of the flexible sheet comprises at least one ridge that has a maximum height at a position that is offset from a center line of a cassette body transition channel. In some examples, a cassette body transition channel comprises side walls that taper toward an active region of the fluid path and/or toward a bottom of the transition channel. An example method of operating a peristaltic pump comprises operating rollers at a higher speed during portions of a revolution that otherwise would result in a lower than average flow rate and at a lower speed during portions of the revolution that otherwise would result in a higher than average flow rate.
