Abstract:
A process and an apparatus for generating electric current from a vibrating blade exposed to a fluid flow, in one embodiment, a plurality of blades are secured within a tail cone of a steam turbine and each blade includes a magnet and a coil associated with the magnet to produce electric current in the coil when the magnet moves across the coil. Each blade is designed to have a natural frequency so that the blade will resonate under the influence of the exhaust flow from the turbine in the tail cone. Abutment members are mounted on the blade or the fixed support to limit the range of motion of the vibrating blade so that it does not exceed the fatigue limit. The blades are made from a low damping material such as titanium so that a low frequency is produced.
Abstract:
Systems, methods and devices for gathering data concerning exposure of predetermined survey participants to media displays are provided. A portable monitor is arranged to receive certain types of terrestrial-based signals, and in some specific cases, satellite-based signals, and to use such signals to generate location data indicative of a location of the portable monitor. The location data and stored media display data is analyzed to evaluate the survey participant's exposure to one or more media displays.
Abstract:
Complementary metal oxide semiconductor metal gate transistors may be formed by depositing a metal layer in trenches formerly inhabited by patterned gate structures. The patterned gate structures may have been formed of polysilicon in one embodiment. The metal layer may have a workfunction most suitable for forming one type of transistor, but is used to form both the n and p-type transistors. The workfunction of the metal layer may be converted, for example, by ion implantation to make it more suitable for use in forming transistors of the opposite type.
Abstract:
Methods and systems of monitoring use by a user of a research device in accordance with at least one predetermined use criterion compare monitored data or requested data with reference data. Methods and systems for promoting use of a research device by a user in compliance with at least one predetermined use criterion compare monitored data or requested data with reference data.
Abstract:
An apparatus is disclosed for a tap handle for beverage dispensing comprising a ceramic, porcelain or stoneware handle filled with a foam, preferably polyurethane foam which renders the tap handle more resilient and resistant to sharding. Ideally, polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate foam is injected into a tap handle shell in lquied form, which solidifies and is capped with a glue, an internally threaded cap and a protective plastic cap.

Abstract:
The invention provides one or more question cards and one or more answer cards, where each answer card corresponds to one or more question cards, and whereby a student is can associate each question card with an answer card, and learn by confirming the matching of pattern s located on each card to determine if a correct answer has been chosen. The question card may display an illustration sketch or diagram, or express a statement, an incomplete statement, a question or a mathematical expression, or any of these images separately or in combination. The answer card may express the truth or falsehood of a statement of a corresponding question card, a word or sentence fragment which can be used in combination with an incomplete statement of a corresponding question card to complete a statement, a statement that comprises a correct answer to a question of a corresponding question card and/or a mathematical expression or value that comprises a correct answer to a mathematical expression of a question card. The patterns may be located close to an edge of the answer or question card. The pattern may represent a number expressed in base two, or ten or any base of a whole number.
Abstract:
A multi-position door security system that provides a primary locked position keeping a closed door secure and also providing varying degrees of secure openings to allow a user to see outside or accept envelopes and packages through an opening. The invention is formed of a cable and a locking bracket which is attached to the frame of the house. The cable is looped and secured around a door knob and is then passed through one or two keyway openings in the locking bracket. One or more locking fitting are rigidly attached to the cable. The locking fittings are sized such that they do not fit through the openings of the locking bracket. This allows the user to choose how far the door will open by choosing which of the locking fittings engage the locking bracket. The invention also allows for easy disengagement by the user in case of fire or emergency. Because of the design and materials used in construction, the invention is secure, economical and easy to install. The present invention is used to secure swinging and sliding doors.
