The vehicle stability control system includes a vibration detector and a corrector. The vibration detector determines a vibration that occurs during running of the vehicle to disturb the stability of the vehicle. The corrector drives the engine load device to suppress the vibration in response to the vibration determined by the vibration detector.

The manager ECU outputs command signals such as a target engine torque and a target AT range for the engine ECU and the AT ECU. The manager ECU retrieves data for completing a map for determining availability of the target engine torque from the engine ECU. The manager ECU checks the availability of a computed value of the target engine torque, and if it is necessary, the manager ECU replaces the target engine torque with an available value. The engine ECU executes an engine control process on the basis of the target engine torque of which availability has thus been ensured by the manager ECU. It is therefore possible to operate the vehicle power train components in a more appropriate manner.

A control element controls an engaging pressure of the lock-up clutch by way of the hydraulic pressure. The engaging force of the clutch is controlled in accordance with calculated results of a target following up section for calculating a controlled variable so that a slip follows up a target slip and a control system stabilizing section for calculating the controlled variable so that the disturbance applied to the control system is compensated. Thereby, a stable control may be realized without receiving any effect of the disturbance. The disturbance may be estimated and learned for more accurate control.

Also stored in memory is the current status of each facility, information representative of the tasks to be performed by the facilities and updated status information resulting from the satisfaction of the conditional parts of the rules. The controller monitors the status of the facilities and compares monitored status information with the conditional parts of the rules stored in memory. When rule conditions are satisfied, control instructions are generated which are employed to produce command signals that are coupled to the respective facilities for controlling the operations thereof.

An object of the present invention is to execute an optimum control of vibrations due to a driver's operation of an accelerator pedal, steering wheel and brake pedal. The operation instructions are inputted into a vibration calculating means (kinetic model) comprising a vehicle body model, suspension model and tire model. Conventional kinetic model controlled the suspension in order to suppress the vehicle body vibration. However, in the kinetic model of the present invention, the tire vibration due to a change in the engine output is first absorbed by the suspension, whereby a residual vibration which was not be absorbed yet by the suspension is transferred to the vehicle body. The operation inputs are compensated by the three feed-back loops between the outputs of the above-mentioned three portions and input of the tire portion, giving the highest priority on the vehicle body model.
