    摘要: Embodiments of the present invention efficiently format long sectors, without decreasing the performance, in a magnetic disk drive in which servo sectors are radially formed at regular intervals, and make full use of the ECC performance that is enhanced by the long sectors. In one embodiment, a data format in each zone on a magnetic disk is completed by a plurality of tracks N (N is an integer, which is 2 or more). The storage capacity per track of the outermost radius zone Z#1 is 150 kB. In this zone, long sectors each having a length of 32 kB are formatted with the number of tracks per format N#1=3. The storage capacity per track of the innermost radius zone Z#m is 80 kB. In this zone, long sectors each having a length of 32 kB are formatted with the number of tracks per format N#m=2.

    摘要: A data discriminating unit includes a data discriminator and a sync signal discriminator. A data sync signal is detected for the bit string discriminated from the output of the sync signal discriminator, and the data is demodulated for the bit string discriminated from the output of the data discriminator, thereby optimizing the signal to a form suitable for discrimination and detection of the data sync signal and demodulation for data reproduction. As a result, the detection performance of the data sync signal can be improved while maintaining the data discrimination performance. A Viterbi decoder is used for discrimination by the data discriminator and the sync signal discriminator for the optimization thereby to optimize the number of states, the number of paths for state transition and the path memory length. A signal having no continuous inversions of the recording data is used as the data sync signal.

    摘要: A half-tone color representation system suitable for use with a multi-color liquid crystal display panel, each display dot of which is constituted by three primary color pixels. More than eight different colors are represented with the three primary color pixels by providing a "half-tone" state of a pixel which is realized through successive ON-OFF controlling of the pixel. Flicker in the half-tone color representation of the display dot is reduced by causing the patterns or timings of successive ON-OFF controlling of the three primary color pixels to be different from one another.

    摘要: An improved multi-color liquid crystal display system which is capable of making visual color representation of more than eight colors in a display panel, such as a liquid crystal display panel which is composed of liquid crystal cells having three primary color filters attached thereto. Lightness of a cell is controlled by causing the cell to be in "ON" state during M frames out of N frames (N>M) to thereby provide half-tone color representation of the cell. This enables increase of the number of colors represented with the three primary color cells more than eight by combining "ON", "OFF" and the "half-tone" states of the three primary color cells.
