摘要: A handpiece for measuring root canal length comprises an outer sleeve that is substantially non-insulating, a connecting device, an instrument carrier, at least one transmission element within the outer sleeve, a length measuring circuit portion, a contact portion and an insulating portion. The instrument carrier is configured to receive a dental instrument. The transmission element transmits force to move the instrument carrier so that a dental instrument received in the instrument carrier executes a rotating, reciprocating and/or vibrating working movement. The length measuring circuit portion is disposed inside the handpiece and operable to transmit measuring signals for measuring length. The contact portion is operable to establish a conductive path between the dental instrument serving as an electrode and the length measuring circuit portion. The insulating portion insulates the length measurement circuit portion and the contact device, through which a voltage is applied during measurement, from the outer sleeve.

摘要: A treatment of ischemia and the attendant reperfusion injury entails the administration plasmin and plasmin-forming proteins, including lys-plasminogen and similar substances. Lys-plasminogen, which can be obtained from the proteolytic cleavage of glu-plasminogen, has been found to have a protective effect on tissue that has been injured by ischemic conditions. The administration of lys-plasminogen alone, in a dosage of about 10-1000 caseinolytic units/kg, can be used to treat subjects during the time of reperfusion and after reperfusion has already occurred. Lys-plasminogen also can be administered in conjunction with clot lysis therapies, such as those that employ tissue plasminogen activator and the like. Lys-plasminogen can also lessen cerebral edema which results from cerebral ischemia.

摘要: A handpiece for use in small-scale surgery and microsurgery, for example, oral surgery or surgery in the ear, nose and throat area includes a handpiece sleeve and a collet chuck which is rotatable about an axis and is arranged in the handpiece sleeve. The collet chuck is spring-biased and can be released by an actuating member. The collet chuck serves to hold a tool and is composed of two tubular members which are movable relative to each other along the axis of rotation of the collet chuck. A chucking lever for releasing the collet chuck is pivotable about a lever axis which is directed essentially in normal direction relative to the collet chuck axis. The actuating member includes a drive member which is movable in axial direction together with the two tubular members of the collet chuck, but does not rotate together with the tubular members. The drive member projects with a portion thereof in direction of the collet chuck axis into an undercut portion of the chucking lever.

摘要: An apparatus for cleaning dental tools includes an instrument connection for blowing oil and/or cleaning agent, possibly in the form of a spray mist, through the instruments and subsequently drying the instruments with compressed air. A drive unit for driving movable instrument components may additionally be provided. The control of the various cleaning phases and of the conveyance of the cleaning liquids takes place pneumatically. In particular, a short-term flow of compressed air displaces at least one piston against a spring which causes oil and/or cleaning agent to be pressed into the instrument. A control edge of the piston produces a connection between the compressed air supply and the instrument connection when the piston leaves its upper position of rest. When the piston travels back in the opposite direction under the force of the spring after the short-term flow of compressed air has ended, the supply of oil and/or cleaning agent to the instrument connection is interrupted, while the supply of compressed air is maintained until the piston has again reached its upper position of rest.

摘要: A method of inactivating reproductive filterable pathogens in immunoglobulin-G-containing blood fractions to be applied therapeutically or prophylactically. In order to preserve full activity of the blood products and to completely inactivate pathogenic viruses, an aqueous solution of an immunoglobulin-G-containing fraction obtained from human blood is treated with neutral hydrolases at a temperature of 4.degree. to 50.degree. C. and at a pH of 5.5 to 9.5.

摘要: A light emitting diode chip includes a semiconductor layer sequence, the semiconductor layer sequence having an active layer that generates electromagnetic radiation, wherein the light emitting diode chip has a radiation exit area at a front side. At a rear side lying opposite the radiation exit area, the light emitting diode chip has, at least in regions, a mirror layer containing silver. A functional layer that reduces corrosion and/or improves adhesion of the mirror layer is arranged on the mirror layer, wherein a material from which the functional layer is formed is also distributed in the entire mirror layer. The material of the functional layer has a concentration gradient in the mirror layer, wherein the concentration of the material of the functional layer in the mirror layer decreases proceeding from the functional layer in the direction toward the semiconductor layer sequence.
