    Abstract: A communication system is capable of two-way wireless data communications between a parent unit and a child unit. The child unit includes a power switch for turning power to the child unit on/off; a power control signal issuing unit operable to issue a power control signal for turning power to the parent unit on/off in response to turning the power switch on/off; and a data communication unit operable to perform two-way wireless data communications with the parent unit. The parent unit includes a power control signal receiving unit operable to receive the power control signal from the issuing unit of the child unit; a power control unit operable to turn power to the parent unit on/off in response to reception of the power control signal from the receiving unit; and a data communication unit operable to perform two-way wireless data communications with the child unit.

    Abstract: A technique for selectively inhibiting a video recorder from recording and/or reproducing those television programs, which are not authorized for viewing. Authorization data associated with respective television programs that are receivable by the recorder and indication of whether that program is authorized for recording and/or reproduction, is received by the recorder prior to (or multiplexed with) the television program and is stored thereat. When the television program is received, the stored authorization data associated with that is read to determine if the received television program is authorized for recording and/or reproduction. If not, the recorder is inhibited from recording and/or reproducing that unauthorized television program.

    Abstract: A steam turbine plant of one embodiment includes a solar energy collector configured to collect solar heat, a boiler configured to change water into steam by the solar heat, a high pressure turbine including a turbine or turbines connected to each other in series, and configured to be driven by the steam from the boiler, first to N-th reheaters, where N is an integer of two or more, and first to N-th reheat turbines, wherein the first reheater is configured to heat the steam exhausted from the high pressure turbine by the solar heat, and the first reheat turbine is configured to be driven by the steam from the first reheater, and the second to N-th reheaters are configured to heat the steam exhausted from the first to (N−1)-th reheat turbines by the solar heat, respectively, and the second to N-th reheat turbines are configured to be driven by the steam from the second to the N-th reheaters, respectively.

    Abstract: A light detecting device includes a case, a light introducing member and a light receiving element. A predetermined light is incident into an inlet face of the introducing member, and an outlet face of the introducing member emits the light incident into the inlet face. A first distance is defined between a top point of the outlet face and a focus of the introducing member, and a second distance is defined between the top point of the outlet face and a light receiving face of the receiving element. The outlet face has a convex lens shape in a manner that the first distance is smaller than the second distance.
