摘要: Provided are a method, system, and program for writing data in a tape medium having wraps. A layout of the tape is provided including at least one segment within a full available length of a first set of wraps for writing user data and at least one segment within a full length of a second set of wraps for writing a work copy of the user data. User data is received to write to the tape medium and detecting is performed as to whether the data being written is occurring in a specified write mode. If the data writing is not occurring in the specified write mode, then writing the received user data to one segment in the first set of wraps. If the data writing is occurring in the specified write mode, then writing a work copy to available full length wraps not having user data.

摘要: A sequential buffer for a magnetic tape data storage system comprises a plurality of segments. A buffer management system buffers data in the sequential buffer, conducting a data transfer process. Subsequently, some of the buffered data is maintained in some, but less than all, the segments of the buffer. Additionally, the maintained buffered data is indicated as VALID data. Thus, a subsequent process may be conducted directly using the data maintained in the buffer, and avoids moving the tape to reread the data.

摘要: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for self-describing, heterogeneous magnetic tape formatting. A detection module determines if data is to be encrypted when written to a magnetic tape in response to a host command and if the data is already encrypted. An encryption module encrypts the data if the data is to be encrypted and if the data is not already encrypted. A write module writes a reserved codeword followed by the data to the magnetic tape wherein the reserved codeword is configured as an encryption reserved codeword if the data is encrypted. If the data is not encrypted, the reserved codeword is configured as a clear reserved codeword. The encrypted and unencrypted data segments are intermixed on the magnetic tape.

摘要: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for read back verification of stored data. A file CRC module calculates a first file CRC for a data file. A segmentation module segments the data file into a plurality of data blocks that comprise a copy of the data file. A block CRC module calculates a data block CRC for each data block. An aggregated CRC module calculates a second file CRC from the data block CRCs. In addition, the aggregated CRC module verifies copy of the data file if the second file CRC is substantially equivalent to the first file CRC.

摘要: Provided are a computer program product, system and method for a redundant key server encryption environment. A key server transmits public keys associated with the key server and at least one device to at least one remote key server. The key server receives from the at least one remote key server public keys associated with the at least one remote key server. The key server receives a request for an encryption key from a requesting device comprising one of the at least one device and generates the encryption key for use by the requesting device to unlock a storage. The key server generates a first wrapped encryption key by encrypting the encryption key with a requesting device public key associated with the requesting device. The key server generates a second wrapped encryption key by encrypting the encryption key with a public key associated with the key server. At least one additional wrapped encryption key is generated for each of the at least one remote key server by encrypting the encryption key with the at least one public key provided by the at least one remote key server. The key server transmits the first, second and the at least one additional wrapped encryption key to the requesting device.

摘要: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for managing metadata for data blocks used in a deduplication system. File metadata is maintained for files having data blocks in a computer readable device. Data block metadata is maintained for each data block in the computer readable device. The data block metadata for one data block includes a data block reference and content identifier identifying content of the data block. The file metadata for each file includes the data block reference to each data block in the file. A determination is made of an unreferenced data block in the computer readable device that has become unreferenced. Indication is made that the data block metadata for the determined unreferenced data block as unreferenced metadata. The data block reference of the unreferenced metadata is maintained in the computer readable device in response to determining that a includes the data block indicated in the unreferenced metadata.

摘要: A read channel equalizer of a magnetic tape drive which equalizes digitally sampled magnetic signals detected by a read head is dynamically adapted. A detector of equalizer dynamic adaptation logic compares equalizer output signals to desired values that are based on the decoding scheme (such as +2, 0 and −2 for PR4) to sense equalizer output signals that are offset from at least one desired value, and signals the fact of each offset and its polarity as amplitude independent error signals. The signaled sensed amplitude independent error signals are fed back to adjustable taps of the equalizer. The simplified error signals thus avoid complex calculations of waveform errors, such as least mean square calculations. The error signals may be weighted and may be adjusted to align synchronously provided error signals with asynchronous taps of the equalizer.

摘要: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for mitigating signal asymmetry. An analog to digital converter samples an analog signal from a read head and converts the sample to a digital input signal. The digital input signal addresses a look-up module, and the look-up module outputs a modified digital signal. The modified digital signal value is a specified function of the digital input signal value, wherein the specified function is configured to mitigate the asymmetry of the digital input signal. The modified digital signal value may be periodically recalculated to adjust for read head wear.
