    摘要: A system and method for depositing a sample of a threat agent onto a substrate. The deposition of the threat agent onto the substrate is visually observed by analyzing the elastic scattered photons produced by the threat agent using elastic scatter imaging to form an image of the threat agent on the substrate, wherein depositing of the threat agent is substantially coincident in time with visually observing of the deposition of the threat agent.A system and method for depositing a sample of a threat agent onto a substrate. A single illumination source illuminates the threat agent on the substrate with a plurality of photons to thereby produce elastic scattered photons. Deposition of the threat agent onto the substrate is visually observed by analyzing the elastic scattered photons produced by the threat agent using elastic scatter imaging to form an image of the threat agent on the substrate.

    摘要: Raman scattering of radiation applied to a water sample is used to assess occurrence of a pathogen in the sample. The method is useful for detecting pathogens that are difficult to detect using other methods, such as protozoa. Examples of organisms that can be detected in water samples using these methods include protozoa of the genus Cryptosporidium and the genus Giardia. The methods described herein have important applications, such as for detection of Cryptosporidium organisms in municipal water systems.

    摘要: A chemical imaging system is provided which uses a near infrared radiation microscope. The system includes an illumination source which illuminates an area of a sample using light in the near infrared radiation wavelength and light in the visible wavelength. A multitude of spatially resolved spectra of transmitted, reflected, emitted or scattered near infrared wavelength radiation light from the illuminated area of the sample is collected and a collimated beam is produced therefrom. A near infrared imaging spectrometer is provided for selecting a near infrared radiation image of the collimated beam. The filtered images are collected by a detector for further processing. The visible wavelength light from the illuminated area of the sample is simultaneously detected providing for the simultaneous visible and near infrared chemical imaging analysis of the sample. Two efficient means for performing three dimensional near infrared chemical imaging microscopy are provided.

In an embodiment, a first spectrum of a mixture containing polymorphs of a compound is obtained using a photon detector and a fiber array spectral translator having plural fibers. A set of second spectra is provided where each spectrum of the set of second spectra may be representative of a different polymorph of the compound. The first spectrum and the set of second spectra may be compared, and based on the comparison, the presence of one or more polymorphs in the mixture may be determined.
