The present invention relates to a nozzle and nozzle device for atomisation, in particular a micro-machined reinforced nozzle plate, that may produce small liquid droplets in air (spray) or into a liquid (emulsion) with a narrow droplet size distribution and to make small air bubbles into a liquid (foam) and to methods of making the same. The invention is further related to a nozzle part for filtration as well as means and methods to facilitate atomisation and filtration.

A device for producing a skim milk starting material milk is disclosed. The device includes a first centrifugal separator that separates milk into a cream fraction and a skim milk fraction, a microfilter that separates the skim milk fraction into a permeate and a retentate, a second centrifugal separator that separates the retentate into a clean fraction and a high bacteria content sludge, and a means for returning the clean fraction to the microfilter. The permeate is provided as the skim milk starting material milk.

The invention relates to a device and method for milking animals, in which the milk is removed is conveyed though a filter element. Any material which is deposited on the filter element is detected and, if appropriate, identified. After detection is complete, the direction of flow through the filter element is reversed, so that filter material is rinsed clean. The invention also comprises a contamination meter for user in die device and method mentioned above.

A process for the preparation of an essentially bacteria-free colostrum by means of microfiltration, which process includes that defatted, natural colostrum (first milk) is poured into a balance tank; subsequently the feeding pump is pumping the concentrate to a booster pump; the booster pump circulates the concentrate across a filter membrane wherein the pressure difference in the membrane rendered filtration of the concentrate possible; the concentrate is flowing across a heating/cooling unit to keep a constant process temperature before the concentrate returns to the booster pump; filtrated colostrum (the filtrate) circulates across the filter membrane to keep a constant transmembrane pressure; the filtrate is drained without pressure loss on the filtrate side of the filter.

A cleaning device is provided for cleaning a teat of an animal. The cleaning device has a housing with a first wall, a second wall and teat receiving passage. The first wall is spaced from the second wall to form a space between the first and second walls. An outlet opening is formed in the device in flow communication with the teat receiving passage and the space between the first and second walls. A feed conduit is in flow communication with the space between the first and second walls for supplying a cleaning medium to the cleaning device. A flow guiding member is located in the space to guide the flow of cleaning medium through the space to the outlet opening. The first and second walls preferably include spaced apart flanges extending substantially parallel to each other to form the outlet opening.

A filter device for use in a pipeline flow system used in particular, but not essentially in milking installations comprises a filter housing (4,5) containing a plurality of filter elements (1a,1b,1c etc) of decreasing size in the flow direction for successively filtering and particles of decreasing size. Each filter element comprises a first filter mesh (1) and a second and coarser filter mesh (2) serving a support mesh positioned on the downstream side of each filter element. The support meshes are all coarser than the coarsest filter mesh. Such an arrangement is readily dismantable for cleaning, is resistant to the usual pressures in pipeline flow systems so that filter meshes as fine as 50.mu. do not rupture and permits a high liquid throughput especially when woven plastics filament meshes are employed.
