A vehicle height control apparatus adapted to a suspension system of an automotive vehicle including a plurality of fluid actuators disposed between a body structure of the vehicle and a set of road wheels for adjusting each vehicle height at the road wheels in accordance with fluid pressure applied thereto, fluid control means for controlling fluid under pressure supplied to and discharged from the fluid actuators, first detection means for detecting each vehicle height at the road wheels, and vehicle height control means for controlling said fluid control means based on each vehicle height detected by said first detection means in such a manner that each vehicle height at the road wheels is adjusted to a predetermined height. The vehicle height control apparatus comprise a second detection means for detecting each vertical load at the road wheels; and communication control means for effecting a communication between said fluid actuators for a predetermined period of time after adjustment of each vehicle height at the road wheels when a difference between the vertical loads detected by said second detection means is smaller than a predetermined value.

These components of movement are weighted differently. Basing on these differently weighted components of movement, second body movements are inferred at the points where the wheel suspension systems attach to the body. By comparison of the second body movements (Vagvl, Vagvr, Vaghl, Vaghr) to the pertaining relative movements between the wheel units and the body there are actuation signals formed for the respective suspension system, in a way such that the selected components of movement can be influenced separately from one another in the sense of a reduction.

Damping bands can be set to a luxury, touring, or sport mode via the driver selectable switch (60). This system provides driver selectable ride feel and yet controls excessive roll and pitch due to vehicle maneuvers, braking, and acceleration by overriding the driver selectable setting whenever the absolute velocity differential threshold setting is exceeded and the directional signs are different. When the threshold is exceeded and the signs are opposed, the null band is adjusted to a narrower setting to initiate control of the damper. This allows the null band to be set wider for normal driving, providing better isolation.
