Abstract:
A cable contains filaments containing carbon, surrounded by a sizing. The filaments surrounded by the sizing are covered by a matrix which is composed of a material containing at least one elastomer and/or at least one thermoplastic elastomer. The cable can be used, in particular for pulling a load, for example in a goods lift.
Abstract:
Provided are an organopolysiloxane composition for producing a rope structure excellent in fatigue resistance, a rope structure using the same, and a process for producing the rope structure. The organopolysiloxane composition comprises an organopolysiloxane having an average polymerization degree of 50,000 to 200,000 and represented by the following formula (I): wherein X1, X2, X3 and X4 are the same or different, each independently representing —H, —OH, —COOH, —R, —NH2, —ROH, —RCOOH, or —RNH2; R representing an alkyl group or an aryl group; and each of m and n independently denotes an integer of not less than 1. The organopolysiloxane composition is applied to liquid crystalline polymer filaments in the process of producing the rope structure from the filaments.
Abstract:
The present invention is related a steel cord (500, 600) comprising one or more strands (504, 602), said strands comprising at least two filaments, wherein the void spaces between at least two filaments of at least one of said one or more strands are at least partially filled with a composition comprising a thermosetting material (506, 606), characterized in that the thermosetting material (506, 606) is a heat-curable one-component thermosetting material. Further, the invention relates to a steel cord (100, 200, 300) comprising at least two strands (102, 104, 202, 204, 302, 304), said strands comprising at least two filaments, wherein the void spaces between at least two strands are at least partially filled with a composition comprising a thermosetting material (106, 206, 306), characterized in that the thermosetting material (106, 206, 306) is a heat-curable one-component thermosetting material.
Abstract:
An uncured, composite rope includes at least one inner tow of structural fibers of a first material and a plurality of outer tows of structural fibers disposed about the at least one inner tow, the structural fibers of at least one of the plurality of outer tows being made from a second material that is different from the first material. The uncured, composite rope further includes an uncured polymeric resin impregnated into the at least one inner tow and the plurality of outer tows.

Abstract:
Steel cables are utilized for reinforcing a wide variety of rubber articles. For instance, pneumatic tires are normally reinforced with steel tire cords. It is important for such reinforcing cables to exhibit good fatigue and corrosion resistance. It has been unexpectedly found that the fatigue and corrosion resistance of such cables can be improved by incorporating syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene into the interstices between the steel filaments in such cables. This invention more specifically relates to a cable for reinforcing rubber articles having improved fatigue and corrosion resistance which is comprised of a plurality of steel filaments and syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene, wherein the syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene is dispersed within interstices between said steel filaments.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a compensating cable adapted to be used in combination with an elevator cab, counterweight, hoist rope and traveling cable. The compensating cable is composed of a sheath, at least one elongated strength member such as a link chain or stranded wire rope, made from metal or other materials of high tensile strength disposed in the sheath and the volume of the sheath not otherwise occupied by the strength member substantially occupied by a mixture of metal particles and plastic.
Abstract:
Reinforced thermoplastic impregnated lubricated wire ropes are provided in the present invention. A method of reinforcing and filling the thermoplastic material with fibers, mineral fillers and powders is also provided.
Abstract:
A wire rope or strand is impregnated with a plastic foam type internal sealant to cushion the wires and strands and provide corrosion protection by (a) initially impregnating the strand with a foamable plastic composition, (b) heating the strand under ''''free-blowing'''' conditions to foam the plastic composition uniformly about the wires or strands, and (c) preferably finally collapsing the foam material upon the surface of the strand by means of a cold die to form a dense outer plastic jacket. The foamable plastic composition before foaming serves as a lubricant within the stranding die so that no additional stranding lubricant is required. The resulting plastic impregnated wire rope or strand has uniform low interwire foam filler densities. Alternative constructions of impregnated rope or strand can be made.
Abstract:
A flexible floatable cord for use in fishing nets, trawls and the like, which comprises a braided sleeve, a core of continuous filament threads incorporated therein and particles of an expanded plastic material disposed between said sleeve and said core, said particles being only attached to one another and to the sleeve and the core and forming a continuous cord in which the core is embedded. Further a process and an apparatus for producing said flexible floatable cord.
