The method comprises the following steps: a) a provision step for providing an observed forward price of a forward contract for each of the links, b) a determination step for deriving from the observed forward prices a proposed joint distribution of forward prices by applying a forward pricing process to each of the links, thereby generating a geographical arbitrage in the network; c) an arbitrage reduction step for reducing the geographical arbitrage in the proposed joint distribution of forward prices by a geographical arbitrage reduction value; d) a verification step for verifying if the proposed joint distribution of forward prices together with the observed forward prices has a defined property in response to the determination step and the arbitrage reduction step; if the verification step results in the defined property being not present e) a generation step for generating a property reduction value; repeating the determination step, the arbitrage reduction step and the verification step, applying the property reduction value to the forward pricing process of each of the links.

The present invention relates to a system and method of managing DSP resources within a network interface system (NIS). A Digital Signal Processing (DSP) resource manager dynamically allocates DSP resources to ensure that a DSP resource is always available to process an incoming call. The DSP resource manager reserves a sufficient number of DSP resources in a PCM group in order to ensure processing of any active communication channels. Each time a call is received and assigned to a T1 channel, the DSP resource manager recalculates the number of idle voice channels and the number of PCM resource channels which must be reserved to ensure processing of all idle voice channels. The DSP resource manager also recalculates DSP resource availability in the PCM group each time a call is deactivated. By tracking the number of idle voice channels in the system as well as the number of idle DSP resource channels in the PCM group, the DSP resource manager can reallocate the resources as necessary to optimize the ability of the system to fulfill enhanced compression mode requests, while also ensuring that there are sufficient resources available to process any call in PCM mode.

An illustrative intelligent network and method for providing voice telephony over ATM and alias addressing are provided that can provide significant advantages. The intelligent network includes a multi-service control point, an ATM signaling intercept processor, and a service administration. The multi-service control point receives an input extracted from an input ATM setup message that includes a called party phone number value and a VToA designator, and generates an alias ATM address of a called party CPE that corresponds to a network gateway in communication with a PSTN switch through a plurality of trunk lines and a desired trunk line of the plurality of trunk lines. The multi-service control point generates an output in response that will be used to generate an output ATM setup message that includes the alias ATM address. The ATM signaling intercept processor intercepts the input ATM setup message from an ingress ATM edge switch of the ATM network, extracts the input from the input ATM setup message, communicates the input to the multi-service control point, receives the output generated by the multi-service control point, generates the output ATM setup message using the output, and communicates the output ATM setup message to the ingress ATM edge switch of the ATM network. The service administration provisions the multi-service control point and the ATM signaling intercept processor. An illustrative method for providing VToA and alias addressing is also provided.

A simple, fair, good-performance bandwidth allocation algorithm for wireless networks is presented. Using a matrix of interlink interference and a list of links' bandwidth requests, the algorithm can schedule link activities to obtain non-collision transmissions. All bandwidth requests are served fairly and near-optimally based on the heuristic algorithm. Bandwidth granted for each link is prorated based on its requested bandwidth, total requested bandwidth in the network, and network capacity. The algorithm can be used for centralized bandwidth allocation and works with any network topology, including mesh networks.

In networks utilizing Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) control signaling for call setup and control, the SIP REGISTER message is modified to indicate service capability information and optionally a traffic load indication for service providers. The REGISTER message is sent to a modified Presence and Instant Messaging (PIM) server that stores presence information and the service capability information for registered service providers. The PIM server then notifies subscribing service users of the identity of the service provider that is registered on the network. The PIM server may utilize the traffic load information to balance the traffic load between service providers by providing users with the identity of the service provider that is the most lightly loaded.
