摘要: A rotary plug valve is formed which is of the type comprising a housing formed of a polymer and a rotary plug disposed in a through-passage of the housing. The plug is formed of a polymer and includes a bore selectively alignable with the through-passage to admit the passage of fluid. The plug valve is formed by forming the plug and attaching thereto a preformed polymeric shield by snap-fitting the shield onto the plug. The shield has an inner surface conforming to the periphery of the plug. The plug and shield assembly is positioned within a cavity of a mold. The cavity corresponds to the shape of the housing. A molten polymer is introduced into the cavity and intimately contacts the shield and forms the housing around the plug.

摘要: A bowling ball according to one embodiment of the present invention has a hollow member (16), or a member of less specific gravity than the mass of the bowling ball, disposed therein with its centroid displaced from the geometric center of the ball. The lighter weight member in the ball permits the use of a dense polymerizable composition for the basic mass of the ball. The ball is molded without the usual shell so that it has a resilient striking surface for maximum impact and pin carry. In another embodiment, a member (46) of a higher specific gravity than that of the polymerizable mass is added generally on the same axis as the lighter weight member (42) to increase the eccentricity of the ball and give it even more driving power upon impact with the pins.

摘要: A die for a soap bar is formed of two vertically separable half sections each having a cavity therein corresponding to one-half section of the soap bar. At least one of the cavities has a central vertical pedestal therein for supporting an insert in spaced relation to the surrounding cavity walls so that when the two die sections are advanced toward each other with a soap bar blank therebetween a bar of soap is molded with the insert embedded therein in a plane between and spaced from the opposite faces of the bar.

摘要: A bus bar of laminar construction useful for power distribution systems and the like is disclosed with a method of fabricating the bus bar and installing suitably provided contact pins or posts. The method comprises stacking conductive plates and dielectric plates alternatively, encapsulating the conductive and dielectric plates in a solidifiable dielectric medium, drilling apertures through the medium and specified conductive plates, driving the pins and an amount of solidifiable material provided therewith into the apertures and into contact with the conductive plates, and solidifying the solidifiable material to secure the pins in the apertures.

摘要: A quantity of discrete particles of thermo-meltable material are heated to melt those particles at the surface of the charge for a predetermined distance inwardly of the charge. The particles remote from the surface of the charge remain in original and unmelted condition. While the melted particles are in a melted condition molding pressure is applied to the exterior of the charge to shape the melted material into a covering encapsulating, at least in part, the unmelted particles. In a further embodiment the particles remote from the surface of the charge may under heat and pressure be superficially tacked together.

摘要: A control device assembled on a circuit board is suitably encapsulated within a protective housing on a multiple unit basis especially suited for automation. A plurality of housings are arranged in an upright, side-by-side relation so that the associated circuit board may be inserted from a vertical direction and correctly positioned within the housing by a pair of guide rails and the action of gravity. The housings may then be suitably encapsulated utilizing a continuous and uninterrupted flow of encapsulating material. The housing itself is fabricated of a non-metallic, thermosetting material unaffected during subsequent operation in elevated ambient temperatures. The housing further includes a laterally extending lip or ledge which overlies a top portion of the next adjacent housing during assembly and encapsulation. Mounting holes are provided of a configuration to permit a wide variety of mounting locations.

摘要: Composite tensile members made up of a plurality of line-type tensile elements, such as continuous glass fibers, embedded in an encapsulating matrix of hardenable material, such as thermosetting resin, hardenable metal, etc. The glass fibers (line-type tensile elements) are carefully oriented in side-byside relationship so that they are all substantially equally load bearing, so as to support a designed load without incurring individual fiber breakage. The matrix helps distribute the interfiber loading. Thus, all fibers are utilized. Though specifically applicable to nonyielding line-type tensile elements, fibers of metals and resins might also be used in the product and process. On a strength to weight ratio, strengths 5x the best steel wires in conventional cables, are provided in the unique composite members of the invention, using continuous glass fibers. Apparatus and process for producing the composite tensile members wherein a molten bath is used as the direct heat-transfer and pressurizing medium.
