摘要： The velocity of detonation of an explosive such as detonating cord (18, 22) is controlled by the addition of a diluent to the explosive, e.g., to the core of the detonating cord (18, 22). An explosively inert diluent, or a diluent comprised of an explosive of lower brisance than the principal explosive comprising the core of the detonating cord, will serve to reduce the velocity of detonation. Such reduced velocity of detonation has beneficial effects in certain operations, including cleaving rock (10), wherein it is observed to significantly reduce radial cracks (24) and stickers (26) (long radial cracks) in the vicinity of the boreholes (12) in which the low-velocity detonating cord (18, 22) is functioned to cleave the rock (10). The low-velocity detonating cord also facilitates leaving behind a smoother face in cutting trenches and tunnels through rock. The method of manufacture of low-velocity detonating cord includes incorporating a suitable diluent, such as phenolic microballoons, into an explosive core of, e.g., PETN.

The method comprises the steps of, providing a primary pattern which encodes a latent image, the primary pattern having a plurality of image elements, and providing a corresponding secondary pattern which will decode the primary pattern to allow the latent image to be observed when the primary and secondary patterns are in at least one registration, wherein the secondary pattern is provided by a diffraction grating microstructure having a plurality of each of at least two different types of diffraction elements. The primary pattern is provided such that predetermined image elements of the primary pattern render diffraction effects from predetermined diffraction elements of the diffraction grating microstructure optically ineffective at least at one observation angle when the authentication device is illuminated with a light source to thereby enable the latent image to be observed.

摘要： A tobacco mass is heated to a temperature of about 150° to about 220° C. to release flavorful tobacco volatiles, which are entrained in air passing through the tobacco mass, and condensed to form an inhalable aerosol. The tobacco mass may have a rotationally symmetric shape, with at least part of its surface in heat transfer relationship with a heater. The heater may be an external shell, an internal rod, or a plate. A shell can enclose the heater and tobacco mass and define a preheating chamber for inflowing air. A mouthpiece, with or without a filter, may be arranged in fluid communication with the tobacco mass to direct the aerosol from the heating system.
