Abstract: A video display system for a vehicle includes a video display device disposed in the vehicle so as to be viewable by a driver of the vehicle. A camera is disposed at the vehicle and having an exterior field of view and operable to capture image data. The field of view of the camera encompasses a blind spot of the vehicle. A control includes a data processor. The control, responsive at least in part to processing by the data processor of data captured by at least one sensor of the vehicle, detects an object present exterior of the vehicle that is in the field of view of the camera. Responsive to detection of the object present exterior of the vehicle, the control controls the video display device to episodically and automatically display video images of the object that are derived from image data captured by the camera.

Abstract: A vision system for a vehicle includes a forward-viewing camera located behind and viewing through a vehicle windshield, a rearward-viewing camera located at a rear of the vehicle, and a common image processor operable for processing captured image data. A video display screen is located within the interior cabin of the vehicle viewable by a driver of the vehicle. The common image processor utilizes object detection software at least during processing of first image data captured by the forward-viewing camera to detect at least one vehicle present exterior the equipped vehicle. Responsive to the vehicle being shifted into a reverse gear and while the driver is executing a reversing maneuver, video images derived from image data captured by at least the rearward-viewing camera are displayed on the video display screen.

Abstract: A vision system for a vehicle includes a rear backup camera and a display device including a video display screen. Within two seconds of shifting the vehicle transmission into reverse gear, the display device displays rear backup video images derived from captured image data. Rear backup video images derived from captured image data can be displayed after shifting out of reverse gear until a threshold condition is met. A user input is actuatable by the driver of the vehicle to change display of rear backup video images to display of other video images. Display of the other video images occurs after a delay period has elapsed since shifting into reverse gear. During the delay period and commencing when the vehicle transmission was shifted into reverse gear, only rear backup video images derived from image data captured by the rear backup camera are displayed by the video display screen.

Abstract: A vehicular display system includes a single video display screen and a video processor operable to process captured video image data captured by a camera at the vehicle. The single video display screen includes a left display region at a left portion, a right display region at a right portion, and a middle display region between the left and right display regions. The display screen is operable to use each display region to display video images derived from a respective portion of captured image data. When the display screen is displaying video images at the right or left display region that are derived from the respective portion of captured image data, the single video display screen does not display video images representative of the other portion of captured image data at the other display region.

Abstract: A vehicular control system includes a forward viewing camera that views through the windshield of the vehicle and captures image data. Responsive at least in part to processing, via a processor of a control, of captured image data, other vehicles exterior the vehicle are detected and road curvature of the road along which the vehicle is traveling is determined. Data that is at least in part relevant to a current geographic location of the vehicle is wirelessly communicated from the vehicle to a remote data receiver. The data is derived, at least in part, from processing of captured image data. The data is processed at the remote data receiver to determine information relevant to the vehicle. The remote data receiver receives data from another vehicle and, responsive at least in part to processing of data received from the other vehicle, location and/or movement of the other vehicle may be determined.

Abstract: A vehicular control system includes a plurality of cameras, a radar device and a central electronic control unit. The vehicular control system is operable to fuse image data captured by at least one of the cameras with radar data sensed by the radar device. The central electronic control unit is operable to at least partially control the vehicle. Threat recognition/evaluation by a threat recognizer/evaluator of the central electronic control unit and risk assessment by a risk assessor of the central electronic control unit is responsive, at least in part, to (i) image data captured by at least one of the cameras, (ii) radar data sensed by the radar device and (iii) map data associated with a current geographical location of the vehicle. The central electronic control unit, responsive at least in part to threat recognition/evaluation and risk assessment, controls braking of the equipped vehicle.

Abstract: A forward facing sensing system for a vehicle includes a radar sensor and an image sensor that sense and view forward of the vehicle. The radar sensor and the image sensor are housed in a self-contained unit disposed behind and attached at the vehicle windshield. A control includes an image processor operable to analyze image data captured by the image sensor in order to, at least in part, detect an object present exterior of the vehicle. The control, responsive at least in part to processing of captured image data and to sensing by the radar sensor, determines that a potentially hazardous condition may exist in the path of forward travel of the vehicle. The radar sensor and the image sensor collaborate in a way that enhances sensing capability of the sensing system for the object in the path of forward travel of the vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicular camera system includes a black-out layer disposed at an upper central region of a windshield as installed in a vehicle, an attachment member configured for attachment at the upper central region of the windshield where the black-out layer is disposed, and an accessory module including a camera. The accessory module is configured to detachably mount at the attachment member at the windshield such that the lens of the camera is spaced from the windshield, and such that the camera views forward of the vehicle through an aperture in the black-out layer via a tapered structure that is widest at the windshield and that tapers from the windshield towards where the lens of the camera is located. The tapered structure is at an acute angle relative to the vehicle windshield. The camera captures image data for a driver assistance system of the equipped vehicle.
