There is provided a method for manufacturing a thin polarizing film having an absorption axis oblique to a width direction of the film which comprises the steps of: performing an orientation treatment in two directions in a plane of a support film; applying a solution containing a lyotropic liquid crystal compound onto a surface of the support film; and causing a column-shaped aggregate of the lyotropic liquid crystal compound to be oriented in a direction (orientation direction) equal to the vector sum of a direction of first orientation treatment and a direction of second orientation treatment.

A planar magnetic device 1 includes a first magnetic layer 3 and a second magnetic layer 5 that are made of a mixture of a magnetic powder 7 and a resin, and a planar coil 4 disposed between the magnetic layers. When the planar coil 4 has an adjacent winding interval W between the potions 4c of the coil and the magnetic powder 7 has a maximum particle size L, planar magnetic device 1 satisfies the relationship W>L. In the planar magnetic device 1 having the above structure, fine magnetic powder that can produce a high inductance fills the spaces between the adjacent windings. Thus, the invention can achieve a high-performance planar magnetic device, such as a thin inductor.

A subject for the invention is to provide a method of refractive index regulation by which the refractive index of an optical polymer molding can be efficiently changed without necessitating a complicated step, such as the step of oxidizing beforehand, and which when used for producing an optical device, imparts excellent transparency thereto. A method for producing a polarizing film of the present invention comprises a step (1) of preparing a lyotropic liquid crystalline solution having electric conductivity of not more than 50 μS/cm (expressed in terms of 0.05% by weight) and containing a dichroic dye and a solvent, a step (2) of preparing a base material having at least one surface subjected to a hydrophilization treatment, and a step (3) of coating the solution prepared in the step (1) on the hydrophilized surface of the base material prepared in the step (2) at a coating rate of not less than 100 mm/second, and drying the solution. The method of the present invention can easily produce a polarizing film having a high dichroic ratio.
