The present invention is to provide a novel soft vinyl chloride resin which can has suitable hardness or flexibility in accordance with its various applications, and which has polymerization stability equivalent to that of vinyl chloride and has good transparency and heat resistance. The present invention is attained by a soft vinyl chloride copolymer resin obtained by copolymerizing (A) a vinyl chloride type monomer and (B) a macromonomer having a polymer comprising an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing a double bond in a main chain, wherein the ratio of (A)/(B) by weight is 50/50 to 80/20.
Abstract:
The present invention is a rheology-modifiable polymeric composition or a free-radical crosslinkable polymeric composition, wherein the resulting rheologymodifying bond or crosslinking bond is a thermally-reversible bond. The resulting polymer is prepared from at least one polymer which upon forming free radicals preferentially degrades or carbon-carbon crosslinks. The present invention permits suppression of the preferential reaction while permitting the polymer to be coupled or crosslinked through a thermally-reversible bond. Suppressing the undesirable degradation or carbon-carbon crosslinking reaction and permitting the desirable reaction yield a rheology-modified polymer or a free-radical thermally-reversibly crosslinked polymer.

Also disclosed is a lubricating oil comprising a lubricant base oil, the multiple function polymer, and optionally other dispersants. Also disclosed is a multiple function polymer comprising a graft polymer of a polyolefin, and an organo-metallic compound capable reacting with said polyolefin, and a process for making the same.
Abstract:
A process for forming dielectric particles includes admixing a first monomer and a crosslinker in a liquid dispersion medium to form a first mixture. A second mixture of an initiator and a stabilizer is prepared and added to the first mixture to form a third mixture in which the first monomer polymerizes to form polymer particles. A second monomer is introduced to the third mixture, the second monomer at least partially polymerizing and grafting upon the previously formed polymer particles. A functional monomer effecting the outer surface charge characteristics of the final particles may be introduced to the third mixture when the second monomer is introduced. The particles may be employed in an electrophoretic fluid for use in an electrophoretic display by dispersing the dielectric particles prepared by the two stage polymerization process in a dielectric fluid.
Abstract:
A thermosetting composition is disclosed characterized in that it comprises (by weight) from 60 to 90% of a bis-maleimide of the formula: ##STR1## in which A represents a divalent radical chosen from the group consisting of phenylene radicals and radicals of the formula: ##STR2## where T represents --CH.sub.2 --, --C(CH.sub.3).sub.2 --, --O-- or --SO.sub.2 --; and from 10 to 40% of N-vinylpyrrolid-2-one. The preferred bis-maleimide is N,N'-(4,4'-diphenylmethane)-bis-maleimide. The composition may be modified by the addition of an unsaturated polyester. The composition is useful for the manufacture of molded articles or of articles having a cellular structure, or for the impregnation of electrical coils.
Abstract:
What are described are polyvinyl ester dispersions which are prepared in a multistage process and have a low content of polymerized acids or acid anhydrides. They can be obtained by a multistage process in which a polyvinyl ester dispersion is obtained in a first stage, monomers in dissolved or pure form are added to the reaction mixture in a second stage and then the polymerization is started again. The polymer dispersions obtained in this way are notable for a low coagulum content and for increased tensile strengths of the films formed therefrom.
Abstract:
A process for producing an adsorbent where a metal oxide is reacted with an alkoxy silane to produce an epoxy-functionalized metal oxide. This product is reacted with an amino-substituted propionic acid and a nitro-substituted fluorenone, and this product is grafted to the epoxy-functionalized metal oxide. This grafted product is the adsorbent, which may be contacted with a hydrocarbon mixture having at least one sulfur containing compound in order to remove this sulfur containing compound. Also disclosed is a process for adding polymerization groups to an adsorbent.
