摘要: Embodiment of the present invention provide a technique for carrying out work in a short time to prevent without fail data stored in a read/write device from leaking to persons other than an authorized user. There are provided a read/write device, and a format management method for managing a format of data stored in the read/write device. A given change factor is specified for a format of data stored in the read/write device. A format change judgment part for judging whether or not the change factor exists is provided in the read/write device or in a host device connected to the read/write device. Then, a given offset coefficient is generated for a format table according to an instruction from a format change judgment part, and a different format table is generated according to the generated offset coefficient and the format table.

摘要: In a magnetic disk apparatus which is removably mounted or embedded to a host apparatus and intermittently accessed for recording/reproducing data, a RAM contained in the host apparatus is utilized for a portion or entirety of a buffer RAM for use in the intermittent access to accomplish a reduction in size and cost of the magnetic disk apparatus. In addition, the magnetic disk apparatus is controlled to rotate a magnetic disk at a variable rotational speed, and operated at a rotational speed at which the total power consumption is minimized in accordance with the capacity of the utilized buffer RAM and whether an access is made for recording or reproduction, thereby improving a power saving effect.

摘要: In one embodiment, a symbol error correction encoder effects block interleaving on recording data and thereafter performs first error correction encoding on the recording data. Next, a symbol error correction encoder performs encoding on the whole block. A reproducing processing circuit outputs likelihood information of respective bits. A first error correction decoder corrects a random error produced upon recording and reproduction, using the likelihood information. Since it is possible to make an improvement in performance with respect to the random error by repetitive decoding at this time, the post-correction data is returned to the reproducing processing circuit. After the completion of such repetitive processing, the data is digitized and subjected to an error correction in symbol unit by a hard determination, and outputted to a symbol error correction decoder.

摘要: A data recording/reproducing apparatus and method therefor having a Viterbi decoder which stores operation result values of an inputted reproduced signal and the reference value when the peak value of the reproduced signal is updated, compares this value with the reproduced signal in amplitude, updates the stored value when the result satisfies the predetermined condition, detects a change in the polarity of the comparison result, controls the clock counter depending on the status of the peak value updating signal, sets 1 in the shift register at the position indicated by the counter according to the detected polarity inversion signal when the peak value is updated, and accordingly makes the updating and detecting operations independent of operations of addition and subtraction of the current reproduced signal and reference value and operations of addition and subtraction of amplitude comparison.

摘要: Count pulses CTP from a counter 15 are supplied to a phase detector 3 through a two-frequency-divider 17 to produce measurement data N.sub.1 representing a difference in phase from a synchronized peak pulses PK. In a subtractor 4, the measurement data N.sub.1 is compensated with error data Ne from a register 13 in order to reduce the number of steady-state phase errors. An internal phase error .DELTA.N produced by the subtractor 4 is supplied to an LPF 5, undergoing compensation processing in a digital filter 7 thereof. The LPF 5 also includes a phase compensator 6 and a period compensator 8 for compensating a control delay experience by the internal phase error .DELTA.N in the digital filter 7. An integer part OPD1 of counter oscillation period data OPD output by the LPF 5 is used for determining an oscillation period of a counter 15 whereas a fraction part OPD2 thereof is accumulated in a register 12 through an adder 11. An error accumulated in a register 12 is transferred to a register 13 and stored therein as error data Ne. Accordingly, the acquisition time is shortened and the number of steady-state errors is also reduced as well.

摘要: When the format control circuit detects bit synchronization information in a sector to be reproduced on a magnetic disk, the format control circuit activates a read gate signal for commanding to read out the sector from the magnetic disk. When symbol synchronization information on the magnetic disk is detected, a SYNC detection circuit produces a synchronization information detection signal. The format control circuit calculates an end position of the sector on the magnetic disk on the basis of the synchronization information detection signal to inactivate the read gate signal. The data correction circuit and the decoding circuit reproduce data and ECC in the sector read out from the magnetic disk during the period that the read gate signal is active on the basis of the synchronization information detection signal to produce the data and ECC to a data bus. The data flow control circuit processes the data and ECC on the data bus after the elapse of a reproduction delay time on the basis of the synchronization information detection circuit.

摘要: A method for writing data to a disk drive. The method includes: receiving a write command; and, determining whether a beginning and an end of a rewrite area specified by the write command agree with boundaries of large-sized data sectors on a disk. The method also includes: reading head and tail data sectors and making a backup of the head and tail data sectors in first and second non-volatile memory areas, respectively, if the beginning of the rewrite area does not agree with the boundaries. The method includes starting a rewrite of the rewrite area after completing backups into first and second non-volatile memory areas. Moreover, the method includes: determining a state stage by using data in first, second, third and fourth non-volatile memory areas if a power shut-down occurs during execution of the write command; and, executing a recovery process in accordance with the determined state stage.
