Abstract:
A modular exhaust after-treatment system including a plurality of exhaust after-treatment modules. Each module includes a housing defining a non-linear flow path arranged between an inlet passage and an outlet passage. The non-linear flow path includes a first portion adjacent the inlet passage that includes a first exhaust treatment component, a second portion downstream from the first portion, and a third portion downstream from second portion adjacent the outlet passage, wherein the third portion includes a second exhaust treatment component. The plurality of exhaust after-treatment modules are secured to each other in either horizontally or vertically.
Abstract:
An exhaust after-treatment system including an exhaust passage having at least a first portion and a second portion. An exhaust treatment component may be positioned within the exhaust passage between the first and second portions, and an insulating blanket insulates each of the first portion, second portion, and the exhaust treatment component. Temperature sensors may be positioned at the first portion, the second portion, the exhaust treatment component, wherein each sensor monitors the temperature at its location. A controller may have access to temperature data associated with an insulated exhaust after-treatment system, and the controller compares the monitored temperatures to the temperature data to determine whether a difference exceeding a predetermined threshold exists. If the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold, the controller outputs an error signal identifying particular portions of the exhaust system that are no longer insulated.
Abstract:
A shock absorber includes an elastomeric jounce bumper which engages a jounce bumper cap during relatively large compression movements of the shock absorber. The jounce bumper cap includes a jounce bumper nose retaining feature which engages the nose of the jounce bumper during the compression movements. The jounce bumper nose retaining feature restricts sliding movement of the elastomeric jounce bumper with respect to the jounce bumper cap to eliminate noises associated with the relative movement.
Abstract:
An exhaust aftertreatment system for an engine is provided that includes a burner, an air supply system and a control module. The air supply system may be in fluid communication with the burner and may include an air compressor disposed upstream from the burner. The air compressor may include a pump mechanism, a clutch assembly selectively transferring torque from the engine to the pump mechanism, and a motor selectively driving the pump mechanism. The control module may be in communication with the clutch assembly and the motor. The control module may selectively switch the air compressor between a first operating mode in which the clutch assembly transfers torque from the engine to the pump mechanism and a second operating mode in which the motor drives the pump mechanism.
Abstract:
An exhaust treatment component for treating an engine exhaust including a housing including an inlet and an outlet. A mixing device is located within the housing between the inlet and the outlet, and the mixing device includes a shell communicating with the outlet, a decomposition tube having a first end and a second end, and a flow reversing device disposed proximate the second end. The first end extends from the shell and is configured to receive the exhaust from the inlet, and is configured to receive a reagent exhaust treatment fluid. The second end is positioned within the shell. The flow reversing device is configured to direct a mixture of the exhaust and reagent exhaust treatment fluid in predetermined directions into the shell, the flow reversing device reverses a flow direction of the exhaust back towards the first end of the decomposition tube.
Abstract:
A shock absorber for a vehicle includes a pressure tube that defines a fluid chamber. A piston disposed within the fluid chamber divides the fluid chamber into an upper working chamber and a lower working chamber. The piston defines a compression passage and a rebound passage which extend through the piston between the upper working chamber and the lower working chamber. A valve disc assembly engages the piston and controls the flow of fluid between the upper working chamber and the lower working chamber. The valve disc assembly includes a bleed disc that defines an orifice with a substantially non-linear contour. The orifice extends to an outer diameter of the bleed disc, and forms a bleed channel between the upper working chamber and the lower working chamber.
Abstract:
A burner (18) is provided for use in a diesel exhaust gas treatment system (10) to treat an exhaust flow (12) from a diesel combustion process (14). The burner (18) includes an inner housing (34) defining a combustion flow path (40) to direct a first portion of the exhaust flow (12) through an ignition zone (42) wherein fuel is ignited, an outer housing (32) surrounding the inner housing (34) to define an annular bypass flow path (44) between the inner and outer housings (34, 32) to bypass a second portion of the exhaust flow (12) around the ignition zone (42), and a mixer (48) including a plurality of flow restrictor fingers (50) that extend across the bypass flow path (44) to restrict an available flow area of the bypass flow path (44), and a plurality of mixer fingers (52) having portions that extend inwardly from a location downstream from the inner housing (34).
Abstract:
An exhaust treatment component mounting system including an exhaust treatment component canister that includes a cleat ring, and an exhaust treatment component housing including a radially outwardly extending flange. A torsion rod including a first end that mates with the flange of the housing, and a second end including a coupling that mates with the cleat ring, wherein during connection between the first end and the second end of the torsion rod, the canister is rigidly secured to the housing.
Abstract:
A shock absorber has a housing with a piston rod assembly disposed therein. A first rod guide member is secured within a first portion of the housing so as to be concentrically disposed about at least a portion of the piston rod assembly. A second rod guide member is secured within the housing adjacent the first rod guide member so as to be concentrically disposed about at least another portion of the piston rod assembly. A digital valve assembly is disposed within the second rod guide member and fluidly couples chambers within the shock absorber.
Abstract:
A method for monitoring an exhaust after-treatment system that doses an exhaust treatment fluid held from a tank into an exhaust stream. The method includes determining a first temperature of the exhaust treatment fluid in the tank using a temperature sensor. If the first temperature of the exhaust treatment fluid is less than a predetermined temperature, a heater is activated to increase the first temperature of the exhaust treatment fluid. The increasing first temperature is then monitored relative to the predetermined temperature. Then, a second temperature when a phase change of the exhaust treatment fluid occurs is detected. The detected second temperature is then compared to the predetermined temperature to determine whether the exhaust treatment fluid is of sufficient quality, or to determine whether the temperature sensor is rational.
