    摘要: The invention is an improved membrane press, and method of elevating a workpiece above the supporting surface of a work base. The membrane press includes a work base having a supporting surface for carrying the workpiece, and a foil-pressing frame positioned above the workpiece for heating and applying the laminating foil to the workpiece. The improvement in the membrane press includes a plurality of workpiece-lifting pedestals residing substantially beneath the supporting surface of the work base. A piston is located beneath each pedestal, and responds to the placement of the workpiece onto the supporting surface of the work base. The piston imparts an upward force on certain ones of the pedestals residing adjacent to and beneath the workpiece to raise the pedestals and workpiece upwardly above the supporting surface of the work base. The raised pedestals permit the top surface, corners, and peripheral borders of the elevated workpiece to be laminated.

The top surface and the plenum are supported by a rectangular frame that includes four legs and a shelf between the plenum and the bottom of the legs. The shelf supports a doorless cabinet that includes areas for storing tools and supplies. The plenum slopes to a point containing an off center aperture which is connected through an adapter to a vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner has a bifurcated input manifold with gate valves which allows the user to select between applying the vacuum to the plenum or applying the vacuum to a hose containing a vacuum cleaning tool where waste not entering the surface apertures will be removed from the top work surface.

The apparatus comprises a perimeter frame of uniform height, affixed rigidly and hermetically in a planar configuration by its base to the ferromagnetic base plate of the lead trimming machine; a plurality of equal-height support posts or rods, each having a board-support apex and a magnetic base perpendicular to its associated post; a support post positioning plate, the lower surface of which is drilled with a series of holes, the centers of which correspond to planar, unpopulated regions, free of conductive traces, on the populated side of a circuit board to be trimmed; and a circuit board support plate having a cut-out which is smaller, but proportionally similar to the profile of the board to be lead trimmed. The support posts are inserted into the holes in the positioning plate from its lower surface, each support post being retained in its respective positioning plate hole by its magnetized base.

    摘要: A high speed drilling system is disclosed for high speed drilling of very small holes in workpieces such as printed circuit boards. The X-Y positioning system includes air bearings to provide lift between the stationary guide beams, the crossbeam and the top table, and further includes a vacuum preloading apparatus for providing a preloading force between the table and the guide beam. The preload force dampens Z axis oscillations which can result in drill bit breakage. The top table is a lightweight honeycomb structure, whose effective rigidity is virtually that of the guide beam due to the vacuum preloading. The system includes pairs of spindles, one a conventional spindle for drilling holes larger than about 0.125 inches, and the other a high speed spindle for drilling holes in the range of about 0.003 to 0.125 inches. The high speed spindle includes a stationary spindle body carrying the stator of the rotary drive motor. Only the spindle rotor is translated along the Z axis to perform the drilling movements. The rotor is supported within the spindle body by rotary and linear air bearings, and is axially driven by a linear motor. A toolchanger loaded by clips carrying the drilling bits is mounted on the top work table, and minimizes the time required to change drilling tools. The clips minimize the manual handling of the fragile drill bits. A vacuum hold-down appratus is employed to secure the workpieces to a drilling station.
