Abstract: A landing door of an elevator system has a door leaf equipped with an integrated floor display that indicates to a person the floor at which an elevator car approaching the floor of departure is currently located. The door leaf of the landing door has a wall element made of sheet metal, the floor display having at least one controllable light source arranged behind the wall element, and a cover layer. The wall element has a display segment with a plurality of light passage openings, the light passage openings forming a perforated screen structure. The cover layer functions such that after the light source is activated to display the desired floor information, light from the light source penetrates through the light passage openings and the cover layer to the outside and when the light source is deactivated, the cover layer does not let light through to the outside.

Abstract: A method for operating an elevator installation includes receiving a destination call of a passenger at a control unit and selecting an elevator car from a set of available elevator cars for transporting the passenger. The elevator car is selected such that elevator car spacing rules are observed. The method further includes determining an arrival time of the selected elevator car at the boarding floor, and determining a first arrival time of the passenger at an elevator landing corresponding to the selected elevator car on the boarding floor. The method includes directing, under the proviso that the first arrival time of the passenger at the elevator landing precedes the arrival time of the selected elevator car by a defined margin, the passenger to a waiting zone of a set of available waiting zones. The waiting zone is selected such that waiting zone spacing rules are observed.

Abstract: An elevator system includes an elevator car, a call panel, a controller, and a floor cancellation feature. The elevator car is adapted to travel in a hoistway defined by a building and between floors of the building. The call panel is located for passenger interaction, includes a plurality of floor selections, and communicates with the controller. The floor cancellation feature is associated with at least one of the call panel and the controller. The controller is configured to operate between a floor cancellation permit state and a floor cancellation restricted state, thereby respectively enabling and disabling the floor cancellation feature, and track at least one event associated with the floor cancellation restricted state.

Abstract: A computerized information apparatus useful for providing information to a user via a display. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a processor apparatus, and speech input apparatus, touch screen input and display apparatus, and at least one computer program configured to run on the processor apparatus, the at least one program being configured to provide a user with contextually relevant content without an affirmative request for such content, but rather based on context divined from one or more “free form” words spoken by the user, whether while searching for information or otherwise. In one variant, the context determination is performed by a remote networked server after having been provided digitized speech samples via wireless interface. In another variant, the context is determined based on soft function key inputs from the user while requesting information. A virtual database structure enabling rapid context determination is also disclosed.
