摘要: A process of preparing a water-based emulsion includes adding a first monomer feed to a reaction vessel in the presence of a first initiator and water to form an acid-functional polymer; neutralizing the acid-functional polymer to form a particulate polymer; and adding a second monomer feed to the reaction vessel in the presence of a second initiator to form an agglomerated polymer; where the process is a one-pot process. The first monomer feed includes a (meth)acrylate monomer, a (meth)acrylic acid monomer, and a styrenic monomer; the second monomer feed includes a hydrophobic monomer; the water-based emulsion includes the agglomerated polymer; the agglomerated polymer includes the particulate polymer; and the agglomerated polymer having an aggregated drupelet morphology. The agglomerated polymers may be used in high opacity emulsions.

摘要: A glass article including: at least one anti-glare surface having haze, distinctness-of-image, surface roughness, uniformity properties and sparkle properties, as defined herein. A method of making the glass article includes, for example, slot coating a suspension of particles on at least one surface of the article to provide a particulated mask covering from about 40 to 92% of the coated surface area; contacting the at least one surface of the article having the particulated mask and an etchant to form the anti-glare surface, and optionally continuously polishing the suspension of particles just prior to slot coating. A display system that incorporates the glass article, as defined herein, is also disclosed.

摘要: The invention relates to a method of solubilising expanded polystyrene (EPS), in which the EPS is brought into contact with at least one initial solvent, enabling the transition of the EPS from an expanded solid state to the gel state. The aforementioned gel is subsequently treated with at least one complementary solvent that is different from the initial solvent, enabling the solubilisation thereof such as to produce a true solution. The invention also relates to the product thus obtained and to the use of said product.

摘要: A polymeric particulate material suitable for use in an ink-jet receiver is prepared by generating an emulsion comprising a first phase having a first carrier fluid and a second phase having a second carrier fluid, said first and second carrier fluids being immiscible; carrying out a first treatment to at least one component of the first phase to form and/or maintain a skeletal structure of the treated at least one component of the first phase; carrying out a second treatment to the second phase to substantially remove the carrier fluid thereby generating a large capacity porous structure defined by the skeletal structure; and mechanically dividing (e.g. milling) the skeletal structure. A coating of the particles is capable of rapid uptake of large quantities of ink, especially when formed using a high internal phase water-in-oil emulsion.

摘要: In order to provide a method by means of which the surface of substrates can be protected from corrosive attack and which, in particular, avoids the necessity for oxidative treatment to form oxide layers on surfaces or for phosphatizing or chromatizing treatment steps and is, in addition, simple to apply, it is proposed that the substrate be brought into contact with a solution of a polymer which exhibits UCST properties and which is caused to be deposited onto the surface of the substrate as a layer by decreasing the temperature of the polymer solution.

摘要: A description is given of a polymer dispersion comprising i) polymer particles dispersed in an aqueous medium and composed of units of ethylenically unsaturated monomers, ii) a water-soluble polymeric polyelectrolyte which along a polymeric backbone carries a large number of ionic groups of uniform charge character or groups which can be ionized to such groups, and iii) an ionic surfactant which carries an ionic group having a charge character opposite to that of the polymeric polyelectrolyte, or a group which can be ionized to such a group. The polymer dispersion can be coagulated by simple dilution with water.

摘要: The invention relates to polystyrene binders modified by fatty compounds. The fatty compounds used are, in particular, esters of fatty acids or fatty alcohols, more especially triglycerides of higher fatty acids, preferably natural fats and oils. They may be added to the binder in high concentrations without adversely affecting the properties of the binder. However, their addition is of advantage in regard to the wetting properties, resistance to water and, above all, hardness. Dispersion adhesives, hotmelt adhesives and sealing compounds in particular can be improved with the binders according to the invention.
