Abstract:
A yarn object which, even though made of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, can be satisfactorily prevented from color fading caused by contact with other objects or the like, can be produced easily at low cast, and can maintain high strength. The yarn object is colored with a colorant. The yarn object includes a core yarn 2 colored with a predetermined colorant and an outer-layer yarn 3 disposed on the periphery of the core yarn. The outer-layer yarn 3 is disposed in such a manner that the core yarn 2 is prevented from contacting with other objects. The outer-layer yarn 3 includes a transparent filament and a space 4 is formed between the outer-layer yarns 3. The color applied to the core yarn 2 is externally visible through the transparent outer-layer yarn 3 and the space therebetween 4.
Abstract:
A self-wrapping, textile sleeve for routing and protecting elongate members from exposure to abrasion, thermal and other environmental conditions and method on construction thereof. The sleeve has an elongate wall constructed from interlaced yarns having interstices between adjacent yarns. At least one of the yarns is heat formed at one temperature to form the wall as a self-wrapping wall curling about a longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The wall has an inner surface providing a generally tubular cavity in which the elongate members are received. The wall also has an outer surface with a cured layer thereon. The cured layer is cured at the one temperature at which the yarns are heat formed into their self-wrapping configuration, wherein the cured layer fills the interstices between adjunct yarns to form an impervious layer on the wall.
Abstract:
A rope with a core and a casing surrounding the core. The core is composed of a multitude of synthetic fibers and the casing is composed of a multitude of synthetic fibers that are interlaced with one another. The synthetic fibers that form the casing are composed of polytetrafluoroethylene and form a lightproof and fluid-repellent envelope for the core.
Abstract:
A braided hose reinforcement includes left and right turning strips. Each of the strips includes a number of elongated metal elements embedded in a matrix of a polymer material.
Abstract:
A flexible member, comprising: an inner core member, comprising a plurality of strands of liquid crystal polymers cooperating with each other to define and provide the inner core member; an outer sheath disposed about the inner core member, the outer sheath defining an inner opening for receiving the inner core member therein, the inner core member being slidably received within the outer sheath, wherein the flexible member is capable of being disposed about a curved surface, wherein a lubricant is disposed upon an exterior surface of the outer sheath and the outer sheath further comprises an end-fitting member disposed about a portion of the flexible connector, the portion of the flexible connector comprising an engagement surface for securement of the end fitting thereto.
Abstract:
A fire safety line is disclosed having a core of heat-resistant strands twisted together and surround by a tough, cut and abrasion resistant jacket. Preferably, the strands of the core are glass fibers coated with vermiculite and the jacket is formed of braided glass fibers encapsulated by a para-aramid. Stainless steel wire may also be interbraided to reinforce the jacket.
Abstract:
A flexible abrasion resistant omnidirectionally reflective pet leash has handle, central pet leash, and pet collar sections that reflect an incoming light beam back in the same direction as it was emanated. The reflected light beam provides accurate illumination of the pet owner's hand, pet leash and the location of the pet during dusk or nighttime hours. This pet leash is created by surrounding a central braided rope of nylon or polyethylene fibers with a cylindrically braided reflective sleeve that is coated with an abrasion resistant transparent polymeric coating. The braided reflective sleeve is composed of narrow width reflective strips that comprise a woven or knitted narrow width strip and a flexible nylon retroreflective sheet sewn thereon. The flexible retroreflective sheet is formed by thermally bonding corner cube, microsphere retroreflectors, or wide angle exposed retroreflective lenses to a flexible polymeric sheet. Due to its braided construction, the reflective pet leash reflects light omnidirectionally over a large angle of acceptance, illuminating the pet owner's hand, the leash itself, and the pet's collar, thereby providing an improved measure of safety for both the pet and the pet handler.
Abstract:
A towed array streamer including a buoyant core, a data bearer layer, longitudinally positioned strain members and at least an outer jacket in which a strain member support has provided in it a series of longitudinally running grooves accommodating strain members to confine the position of the strain members in the streamer.
Abstract:
This invention provides a braided tubular sleeve having increased abrasion resistance. The braided tubular sleeve according to this invention have a resilient self-conforming "springback" property which enables the sleeve to conform in close contact with the surface of substrates, such as wire or cable bundles. The increased abrasion resistance is provided by braiding in with the resilient plastic yarns about one to about twenty ends of a resilient monofilament yarn such as nylon for every two ends of a resilient engineering plastic monofilament yarn such as polyester.
Abstract:
A rope assembly which floats on water comprises a load-bearing rope (e.g. of polyamide or polyester fibres or filaments), a layer of buoyant, substantially non-absorbent, flexible material (e.g. closed-cell plastics foam) arranged around the rope, and a flexible jacket (e.g. of polyamide, polyester or polypropylene fibres or filaments) outside the buoyant layer holding it in place, the buoyant material being present in such quantity that the rope assembly will float on water.
