Abstract:
A flash memory mass storage drive stores user files in a convenient credit card sized drive. Embodiments function as both a credit card and a mass storage drive. Communication may be through a host interface connector such as a USB connector, a magnetic interface, a smart card interface, and/or a near field communication interface. In certain embodiments the drive comprises a portion that is sufficiently thin to be swiped through a standard credit card, ATM, or point of sale device. The USB connector of the drive can easily be plugged into even a crowded receptacle of a host computing device.
Abstract:
A sound-producing folding insert for a magazine is disclosed. A foldable support structure comprises a primary page and a secondary page. The secondary page is folded upon itself to form a pocket that retains a sound emitting means. The sound emitting means includes an electronic microchip sound generating device that includes a switch means connected at one end to a slidable tongue mechanism that is attached at the other end to the primary page, such that upon opening of the folding insert by separating the primary and secondary pages the slidable tongue mechanism allows the switch means to close, thereby activating the sound emitting means. Conversely, closing the folding insert brings the primary and secondary pages together forces the slidable tongue mechanism to open the switch means, and thereby deactivating the sounds emitting means. The sound emitting means is relatively flat and includes a generally flat speaker mounted to the secondary page. Generally flat button batteries are included to power the device when the sound emitting means is activated.
Abstract:
A secure optical data disc comprising an electronic article surveillance tag embedded within a layered disc structure comprising first and second substrates is disclosed. The tag is placed within a non-readable zone (i.e., one that does not have data tracks) of the secure disc. To improve signal quality of the tag, the reflective metal layer thickness is minimized and discontinuities are introduced on the reflective metal layer. A first discontinuity separates a data track region of the disc from a mirror/ID band region. A second, radial discontinuity opens the mirror/ID band ring.
Abstract:
Devices and methods are provided for wireless communication with a target, such as an optical disc or an electronic device. The devices include an integrated processor and an antenna that are connected to the target, which enable a wireless communication with an associated reader or scanning system. The integrated circuit may be embedded in the target attached to the surface of the target, or in a label attached to the target. In a similar manner, the antenna may be embedded in the target, attached to the surface of the target, or in a label attached to the target. Interconnection lines may be used connect the integrated processor to the antenna, and may include a feedthrough arrangement for passing electrical signals between the surface and the interior of the target. A demodulator may also be positioned adjacent or on the antenna, allowing a long lead line to pass demodulated data to the integrated circuit. In one example, the antenna is positioned in or on a case that holds the target, with lead lines connecting the antenna to the target's integrated circuit. One, two, or three antennas may be used, with the multi-antenna arrangements preferably arranging the antennas orthogonally.

Abstract:
A compact disc (CD) jewel box is described in which a multifunction light is positioned within the cavity space defined by the CD storage compartment and the CD support tray. The CD jewel box is illuminated with light from one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) powered by small power supplies or battery cells, using one or more switches that are optionally sensitive to pressure, motion, ambient sound, or light levels. The multifunction light dynamically illuminates the prescribed spaces within the jewel box. A light conducting optical lens is provided to enhance the visual effects by transporting the light as desired. The support tray is constructed from a transparent material, preferably a transparent plastic.
Abstract:
A hard cover product having an outer liner attached to a pair of sheet members disposed in spaced-apart relation to define a gap. One of the hard sheet members defines a receiving zone that receives a security tag. An inner liner attaches overlying the pair of hard sheet members and concealing the security tag within the receiving zone. The gap between the pair of sheet members defines a spine for the hard cover product, whereby the opposing hard sheets defining a front cover and back cover that move together foldably. Methods of making a hard cover product and of making an intermediate board for use in a hard cover product are disclosed.

Abstract:
A device for sending compact discs or like plate-shaped data carriers, comprising a storage box for the data carrier and a label, wherein the label preferably comprises at least an address field, the storage box being manufactured from plastic of high impact resistance and relatively high elasticity, such that the storage box is at least substantially unbreakable, the storage box comprising at least two box parts which are pivotable relative to each other and connected via pivot means, the label being designed for attachment on the storage box, such that the two box parts in closed condition are interconnected by the label, at a distance from the pivot means, the arrangement being such that a data carrier in the storage box can be locked between the box parts, whereupon the storage box can be closed off and sealed by the label, whereupon the box can be sent by mail, without further outer package, to an addressee stated on the label.
Abstract:
A storage device for plate-shaped data carriers, said storage device being box-shaped and comprising a first and a second cover part, pivotally connected, wherein fixing means are provided for fixing the data carrier within the storage device, the storage device being injection molded from plastic, in particular polypropylene or the like, and being closable, and protective means being integrally injection molded in the storage device during manufacture.
