Abstract:
An absorbent article containing a composite mixture of absorbent macroporous particles and binder particles. Preferably, the absorbent macroporous particles are those having a macroporous structure which allow for the rapid flow of liquid therein, e.g., aerogels, xerogels, cryogels, or mixtures thereof. The absorbent articles produced thereby are preferably thin and lightweight, but maintain an ample rate of absorption allowing for a more rapid uptake of higher volumes of liquids.
Abstract:
A cloth for the seat of an office chair has a middle layer made of polyester. The middle layer is sandwiched between a bottom and a top layers also made of polyester, and has fibers arranged for spaces to form among the fibers, and between the bottom and the top layers; the top layer has meshes, and the distance from the bottom layer to the top layer can be as long as 5 millimeters such that the cloth for the seat is resilient. The bottom, middle and top layers are formed integrally and dyed desired colors under high temperature. And, the cloth for the seat has satisfactory ventilation because air can flow in and out off same through the meshes of the top layer and the spaces among the fibers of the middle layer.
Abstract:
A composite flapping flexure is disclosed in which load carrying belts are located on the upper and lower surfaces of the flexure, and minor load carrying off-axis layers are located at the mid-plane of the flexure.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a laminate flexible strip for attachment to a vehicle in the form of a weather sealing strip. The strip includes a core member and a filler layer of elastomeric seal material disposed about and into the voids of the core member. The core member includes a bent wire in an undulating pattern that forms a number of continuously connected longitudinally spaced and laterally extending u-shaped metal clamping clips for reinforcing the seal material and a number of continuous laterally spaced and longitudinally extending linear fibers connected to the clips to maintain the spatial relationship between the bent wire members. While the fibers or laminate maintain the longitudinal spacing of the wires, they also allow the core to flex laterally and compress longitudinally in the finished extrusion. The fibers may be made of the same material as or a material dissimilar to the clips.
Abstract:
A flame-blocking fabric is disclosed that includes a nonwoven scrim and a plurality of flame resistant fibers entangled to and with the nonwoven scrim. The nonwoven scrim may be comprised of fibers that may be chosen from the groups of aramid fibers and melamine fibers. The flame resistant fibers may be chosen from the groups of aramids, polybenzimidazoles and melamine fibers. Also disclosed is an aircraft seat that includes a frame, a foam cushion, a fire-blocking fabric that has a nonwoven scrim and a plurality of flame resistant fibers entangled to and with the nonwoven scrim, and a dress cover. The fire-blocking fabric is thermally resistant enough to meet Federal Aviation Administration seat burn requirements. Also disclosed herein is a method of manufacturing the fire-blocking fabric that includes the steps of laying a web of flame resistant fibers on a nonwoven scrim and entangling the fibers to and with the scrim. The step of entangling the fibers may be accomplished by needle punching, hydroentanglement and/or chemical methods.
Abstract:
An elastic laminate suitable for use with a nonwoven garment has an elastic film with elastic strands placed thereon. The laminate is particularly suitable for combining with facing materials when making nulltargeted elastic materialsnull for placement into the structure of the nonwoven garment. A disposable garment may then utilize the elastic laminate, or the targeted elastic material made therefrom, to include an area of elasticized gathering under tension to better conform to the body of the wearer.
Abstract:
A reinforced shrink wrap has been developed for use in all types of environments and products or applications. The shrink wrap is tear resistant and can be prepared to withstand exposure from the sun and corrosive elements. The shrink wrap includes a layer of a shrink film and a layer of polyolefin film. In addition, a reinforcing filamentous grid in an extrusion tie layer is disposed in between the shrink film and a polyolefin film.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for the production of a shaped article comprising the compression of one or more fiber layers containing polyolefin fibers. The invention also relates to shaped articles obtainable with the process according to the invention and their use in anti-ballistic applications. In the process according to the invention the fiber layers contain 0.02 to 25 wt.% of a solvent for the polyolefin. The shaped articles obtained have an improved anti-ballistic quality.
Abstract:
A composite member having increased resistance to delamination includes a reinforcing wrap of fiber-matrix composite material which is encircled about the member so that the edge surfaces of the member are covered by the wrap. The wrap includes fibers which are oriented from about null60null to about null60null relative to the direction along which the reinforcing wrap is wrapped about the member. The fibers of the reinforcing wrap impart increased third-axis or Z-direction strength at the edges of the member where interlaminar tensile stresses are greatest.
Abstract:
A nonwoven fabric made of filaments, which comprises filaments formed from a fiber-forming thermoplastic polymer and satisfies all of the following conditions (A) to (D). (A) The fiber bundles are present in a range of 5-70 per centimeter in any cross-section parallel to the direction of thickness of the nonwoven fabric. (B) The total area occupied by the fiber bundles is in a range of 5-70% of the cross-sectional area of any cross-section perpendicular to the direction of thickness of the nonwoven fabric. (C) The apparent density is 0.10-0.50 g/cm3. (D) The cut ends of the fibers on the nonwoven fabric surface are present in a range of 5-100 per mm2 of surface area.
