Abstract:
The present invention provides a chemical composition comprising a t-butyl calix[8]arene encapsulated cyanuric acid derivatized with at least one C.sub.4 -C.sub.50 n-alkyl halide, n-alkaryl halide, aryl halide or polyoxyalkylene halide.
Abstract:
The novel polymers of the present invention are prepared by reacting a heterocyclic nitrogen compound containing at least one --N(H)-- group in the ring, an aldehyde and amino-substituted polymer (e.g., an ethylene alpha-olefin interpolymer substituted by primary amino or secondary amino groups) to form an oil soluble Mannich base derivative useful as antioxidant additive in oleaginous compositions such as lubricating oils and fuels. Preferred heterocyclic nitrogen compound are azoles such as benzotriazoles and alkyl-substituted benzotriazoles. Preferred amino-substituted interpolymers comprise amino-substituted ethylene propylene norbornene terpolymers. The polymers of this invention are oil soluble and are useful as dispersants, viscosity index improver dispersants, and as antiwear and antioxidant additives in oleaginous compositions.
Abstract:
Reactive S (e.g. H.sub.2 S and mercaptans) in petroleum liquid are scavenged by the use of oil soluble trialkyl hexahydro triazines wherein at least one alkyl group, and preferably all three, contain from 7 to 20 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Sediment and color formation in distillate fuels are reduced by the addition of a quaternary ammonium compound comprising a cation in which the ratio of carbon atoms to quaternary nitrogen atoms is not more than 10:1 and an anion which is derived from an acid which is a carboxylic acid, carboxylic acid anhydride, phenol, sulphurized phenol or sulphonic acid.
Abstract:
This invention relates to lubricants for two-cycle engines comprising a major amount of at least one oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of at least one compound of the general formulaA.sup.y- M.sup.y+ (I)wherein M represents one or more metal ions, y is the total valence of all M and A represents one or more anion containing groups having a total of about y individual anionic moieties and each anion containing group is a group of the formula ##STR1## wherein T is selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## Additive concentrates and lubricant-fuel mixtures for two cycle engines are also disclosed as well as methods for operating two-cycle engines.

Abstract:
Ester derivatives useful as fuels and lubricating oil additives are prepared by the Michael addition of an alkyl acrylate to an amine to produce an intermediate ester, followed by an ester interchange with the intermediate ester to produce the final ester derivatives, some of which are novel compounds.
Abstract:
Certain aminofulvene derivatives are effective in improving the antiknock performance of gasoline when used in an internal combustion engine. Particularly preferred aminofulvene derivatives are 2-methoxycarbonyl-6-(dimethylamino)fulvene; 2,3-dimethoxycarbonyl-6-(dimethylamino)fulvene; or mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
When a phenol having substituents in at least the 2- and 4-positions but having a hydrogen atom in the 6-position, or a phenol having substituents in at least the 2- and 6-positions but having a hydrogen atom in the 4-position is reacted with formaldehyde and 1,3-propanediamine, a unique insertion-condensation reaction occurs whereby the product is a hexahydropyrimidine derivative which may be represented by the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is (i) a 2-hydroxybenzyl group having an inert substituent (preferably a hydrocarbyl substituent) in at least the 3- and 5-positions or (ii) a 4-hydroxybenzyl group having an inert substituent (preferably a hydrocarbyl substituent) in at least the 3- and 5-positions; and R.sub.2 is (i) a 2-hydroxybenzyl group having an inert substituent (preferably a hydrocarbyl substituent) in at least the 3- and 5-positions or (ii) a 4-hydroxybenzyl group having an inert substituent (preferably a hydrocarbyl substituent) in at least the 3- and 5-positions or (iii) a hydrogen atom. Uses for such compounds include their use as antioxidants and stabilizers for various substrates, such as fuels, lubricants, and functional fluids.
