    摘要: A composite coil spring includes a coil body that extends along a coiled axis. The coil body includes a core and a plurality of fiber layers impregnated with a polymer material. The plurality of fiber layers are arranged around the core at different radial distances from the coiled axis. Each of the plurality of fiber layers extends around the coiled axis at an oblique fiber angle to the coiled axis. Each of the plurality of fiber layers includes a number of fibers that is a product of a common base number of fibers multiplied by a positive non-zero integer from a set of positive non-zero integers. The positive non-zero integer of at least one of the plurality of fiber layers is different from the positive non-zero integer of at least one other of the plurality of fiber layers.

The anchoring surface is located, at least in part, radially around the composite tube, includes a diameter that is smaller than the outer diameter of the composite tube, and secures, at least in part, the fitting to the composite tube, so that, after assembly, the fitting and the composite tube are generally coaxial.

    摘要: A flexible, adhesively attachable, thermal and acoustical insulating shield has a needled, flexible, fibrous batt (40) having an insulating layer (43) of insulating fibers (44) disposed between opposite binding layers (41, 42) of binding fibers (45). A flexible adhesive (50) is disposed and adhered substantially over the upper surface (47) and lower surface (48) of the batt (40) such that the tufts (46) on the upper and lower surfaces (47, 48) are secured to the surfaces by the adhesive. A flexible, protective foil (51) is permanently adhered by the adhesive (50) to the lower surface (48) of the batt. The shield may be flexed and pressed to configure and permanently attach the upper surface (47) to an object (1) to be shielded.

    摘要: A structural member for use in a wheelchair which includes an elongate section having side members connected by at least one central member and movement accommodating channels. Preferably, the elongate section has a W-shaped cross-sectional configuration. The preferred cross-section has a generally round outline. The preferred wheelchair structural member also includes a mechanism for imparting torsional stiffness thereto. Preferably, that mechanism includes stiffening disks which have a solid, circular cross-sectional appearance, and which are formed integrally with the elongate section. Similarly, the preferred structural member may include a mechanism for imparting bending strength. Stiffening disks, as well as increased cross-sectional diameter and increased wall thickness may be used to reduce the tendency of a structural member to bend. A preferred injection molding method and the preferred use of fiber-reinforced plastic materials are also disclosed.

    摘要: Axially extending structures having internal forces directed radially outward therefrom may be reinforced by installing bands around the structures. The bands consist of a plurality of elastic convolutions of a composite material which assume a coiled configuration in a relaxed condition. The composite material includes a multiplicity of continuous, high tensile strength filaments encapsulated in a resin matrix and extending codirectionally with one another through the resin matrix. The band is installed around the structure by deflecting portions of the band to an uncoiled configuration and then wrapping these portions of the band around the structure. Adhesive may be used to secure the band tightly around the structure. Particularly useful applications for the composite bands are for reinforcing gas and liquid transmission pipelines and concrete bridge support columns.
