    Abstract: An apparatus for detecting a position of a rotor of a DC motor with N phases having a plurality of windings. The apparatus includes circuitry to couple at least two of the windings between a supply voltage and a reference voltage according to a first current path and allow the current stored in the two windings to be discharged through a second current path. The circuitry is configured to force the at least two windings at a short circuit condition in the second current path. The apparatus also includes a measurement circuit configured to measure the time period of discharging the current stored in the two windings and a rotor position detector for detecting the rotor position based on the measured time period.

    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a device for ejecting a fluid, including producing a nozzle plate including: forming a first nozzle cavity, having a first diameter, in a first semiconductor body; forming a hydrophilic layer at least in part in the first nozzle cavity; forming a structural layer on the hydrophilic layer; etching the structural layer to form a second nozzle cavity aligned to the first nozzle cavity in a fluid-ejection direction and having a second diameter larger than the first diameter; proceeding with etching of the structural layer for removing portions thereof in the first nozzle cavity, to reach the hydrophilic layer and arranged in fluid communication the first and second nozzle cavities; and coupling the nozzle plate with a chamber for containing the fluid.

    Abstract: A control module controls a switching converter including at least one inductor element and one switching element. The module includes: a driver circuit that generates a control signal which controls the on and off cycles of the switching element; a first modulation circuit which sends a command to the driver circuit in such a manner as to generate edges of a first type of the control signal, as a function of the input electrical quantity and of a reference electrical quantity; and a second modulation circuit which sends a command to the driver circuit in such a manner as to generate edges of a second type of the control signal, as a function of a first and a second internal electrical quantity, which are functions respectively of the charges on a first and a second capacitor, which are charged and discharged as a function of the control signal.

    Abstract: In accordance with an embodiment, a method includes receiving an enable signal. After the enable signal is asserted, it is determined whether a soft-start capacitor is electrically connected to an input of a ramp generator circuit while keeping an output of the ramp generator circuit low. If the soft-start capacitor is electrically connected to the input of the ramp generator circuit, a first current is injected into the input of the ramp generator circuit to generate a first voltage ramp at the output of the ramp generator circuit. If the soft-start capacitor is not electrically connected to the input of the ramp generator circuit, a second current is injected to the input of the ramp generator circuit to generate a second voltage ramp at the output of the ramp generator circuit. The second current is smaller than the first current.

    Abstract: A driving circuit for a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) gyroscope operating based on the Coriolis effect is provided. The driving circuit supplies drive signals to a mobile mass of the MEMS gyroscope to cause a driving movement of the mobile mass to oscillate at an oscillation frequency. The driving circuit includes an input stage, which receives at least one electrical quantity representing the driving movement and generates a drive signal based on the electrical quantity; a measurement stage, which measures an oscillation amplitude of the driving movement based on the drive signal; and a control stage, which generates the drive signals based on a feedback control of the oscillation amplitude. The measurement stage performs a measurement of a time interval during which the drive signal has a given relationship with an amplitude threshold, and measures the oscillation amplitude as a function of the time interval.
