Abstract:
A lightweight, cryogenic-compatible pressure vessel for flexibly storing cryogenic liquid fuels or compressed gas fuels at cryogenic or ambient temperatures. The pressure vessel has an inner pressure container enclosing a fuel storage volume, an outer container surrounding the inner pressure container to form an evacuated space therebetween, and a thermal insulator surrounding the inner pressure container in the evacuated space to inhibit heat transfer. Additionally, vacuum loss from fuel permeation is substantially inhibited in the evacuated space by, for example, lining the container liner with a layer of fuel-impermeable material, capturing the permeated fuel in the evacuated space, or purging the permeated fuel from the evacuated space.

A liquified gas delivery system for a motorized platform includes a holding tank configured to receive liquified gas. A first conduit extends from a vapor holding portion of the tank to a valve device. A second conduit extends from a liquid holding portion of the tank to the valve device. Fluid coupled to the valve device is a vaporizer which is in communication with an engine. The valve device selectively withdraws either liquified gas or liquified gas vapor from the tank depending on the pressure within the vapor holding portion of the tank. Various configurations of the delivery system can be utilized for pressurizing the tank during operation.
Abstract:
A cryogenic temperature control apparatus comprises a storage tank housing a quantity of cryogenic fluid, a housing defining a conditioned space, and a heat exchanger in thermal communication with the conditioned space. A first flow path fluidly connects the storage tank and the heat exchanger. A first valve is positioned along the first flow path to selectively fluidly seal the first flow path between the storage tank and the heat exchanger. A second flow path fluidly connects the storage tank and the heat exchanger. A second valve is positioned along the second flow path to selectively fluidly seal the second flow path between the storage tank and the heat exchanger.
Abstract:
A method of temperature control in a cryogenic temperature control apparatus comprises providing a heat exchanger in thermal communication with an air-conditioned space. The heat exchanger includes an air inlet and an evaporator coil having an outlet. The method further comprises providing a first temperature sensor being operatively coupled to a controller, measuring the temperature in the outlet and sending the temperature in the outlet to the controller, providing a second temperature sensor being operatively coupled to the controller, measuring the temperature in the air inlet, and sending the temperature in the air inlet to the controller, and providing a plurality of temperature control values. The flow of cryogen from a storage tank to the evaporator coil is altered each time the temperature in the outlet passes one of a first plurality of temperature control values and each time the temperature in the air inlet passes one of a second plurality of temperature control values.

Abstract:
A corrosion protection device (nullCPDnull) for inhibiting corrosion of an air compressor collection tank, and relieving the pressure in the tank when excessive condensate accumulates within the tank. A relief passage extends through the plug, and an anode seals the relief passage near the interior volume of the tank. The tank, plug and anode are all coupled in an electrically conductive relationship, and a galvanic circuit is formed when condensate collects near the bottom of the tank. The anode has a lower redox potential than steel, and is preferably made from magnesium. The anode loses electrons with less resistance than the steel tank, so the anode will be consumed through the oxidation process before the steel tank corrodes. Once the anode is consumed so that it no longer seals the relief passage, the condensate and air are discharged from the tank through the relief passage.
Abstract:
A differential pressure gauge for a cryogenic storage tank provides onboard entry, by an operator, of tank dimensions, tank orientation, and the type of liquid stored within the tank. A differential pressure sensor supplies a signal corresponding to a differential pressure. The gauge uses the information supplied by an operator, combined with stored formulas and liquid characteristics, to perform real-time liquid volume computations. The liquid volume may be displayed on the gauge itself or may be transmitted via telemetry to an external device.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lightweight, temperature-resistant debris shield suitable for used within a closed vessel. The invention has no small parts, and can be readily assembled and disassembled in a confined space without tools after passing through a tight passage such as a pressure vessel manway.
