Abstract: A cable such as a server cable may have a tapered termination portion that when connected to other information handling system components reduces the loss of signal between the cable and the information handling system component. A method of making a cable with a tapered termination portion comprising heating a wire having an end and a body portion, the body portion having a first diameter; pulling the end relative to the body portion, for example with a clamp coupled to the end under tension, to obtain a location between the end and the body portion having a second diameter smaller than the first diameter; and cutting the wire at the location.

Abstract: A connector arrangement includes a plug nose body; a printed circuit board positioned within a cavity of the plug nose body; and a plug cover that mounts to the plug nose body to enclose the printed circuit board within the cavity. The printed circuit board includes a storage device configured to store information pertaining to the electrical segment of communications media. The plug cover defines a plurality of slotted openings through which the second contacts are exposed. A connector assembly includes a jack module and a media reading interface configured to receive the plug. A patch panel includes multiple jack modules and multiple media reading interfaces.

Abstract: A network communication device includes communication circuitry configured to communicate signals over a network cable, and a connector configured to connect to the network cable. The connector includes one or more signal terminals, an inner shield connection and an outer shield connection. The one or more signal terminals are configured to connect to one or more signal conductors of the network cable for communicating the signals. The inner shield connection surrounds the one or more signal terminals and is connected to a circuit ground of the communication circuitry. The outer shield connection surrounds the inner shield connection and is connected to an additional ground of the network communication device, the additional ground being different from the circuit ground.
