Abstract:
A hydraulic fluid reservoir apparatus for an automotive power steering system comprises a filter chamber, and a filter parallel to a vertical axis and dividing the filter chamber into an upstream region and a downstream region. The reservoir apparatus also includes a stagnant fluid well apart from the filter chamber, and a de-aeration zone overlying the filter chamber. A vent is provided between the upstream region and the de-aeration zone. Fluid recycled to the reservoir apparatus contains entrained gas. The filter separates the gas from the fluid within the upstream region, whereupon the gas is vented to the de-aeration zone and separates from the fluid circulated to the stagnant fluid well.
Abstract:
A stator assembly for an electric machine, for example, for an automotive alternator. The stator assembly includes a metal core with windings installed into slots of the core. A pair of conductors of a continuous form is used for each phase of the machine. The windings are interlaced to alternate between radially inner and outer positions in each adjacent winding slot of the stator core.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for treating exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, including a housing, at least one gas treating body, a first support material, an internal shield, and a second support material. The housing includes an inlet, an outlet and an interior chamber between the inlet and the outlet. The gas treating body or bodies are located within the chamber, and the first support material is located between the outer surface of the gas treating body or bodies and the inner surface of the chamber. The internal shield is coupled with the inner surface of the housing via the second support material, which is located between the outer surface of the internal shield and the inner surface of the housing. The cross sectional area of the housing is generally constant in the region proximal to the internal shield.
Abstract:
A controller for controlling oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions from a combustion engine based on estimating a parameter for the engine. The controller capable of adjusting cylinder temperature based on the estimated parameter for controlling NOx emissions.
Abstract:
A suspension component for an automobile, such as a stabilizer bar, is provided and includes at least one localized portion having a strengthened outer surface. The localized portion is positioned at a location of highest stress along the suspension component. A method of forming the suspension component is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention involves a method of controlling a vehicle steer-by-wire system having two independent road wheels. In one embodiment, the method comprises providing a steering wheel control sub-system to generate road wheel reference angles and to produce steering feel for a vehicle driver. The method further includes providing a road wheel control sub-system with servo control structure having road wheel angles and angular rates feedbacks including a road wheel controlled plant and a road wheel controller for controlling actual road wheel angles to track to road wheel reference angles. Moreover, a robust control is implemented in the road wheel controller to overcome affects of uncertainties and disturbances from the steer-by-wire system, vehicle, and external environment.
Abstract:
A stator core assembly having an annular core defining an outside diameter, an inside diameter, and a plurality of radially projecting winding slots. A first electrical conductor and a second continuous electrical conductor are inserted within the winding slots circumferentially around the stator core. The conductors form a plurality of layers, each layer being defined as one substantially complete circumferential pass of the conductors around the stator core. Each of the conductors include a plurality of straight portions that lay within the winding slots, and a plurality of end loop portions that extend circumferentially to connect two of the straight portions. The length of the straight portions and end loop portions vary between the layers based upon the radial location of the particular layer within the stator core and a pre-determined axial height of the end loop portions.
Abstract:
A dual fan blower module of the present invention includes a housing defining a central motor compartment and first and second scroll chambers. The scroll chambers are axially aligned with and located on opposite sides of the motor compartment. A motor is mounted within the motor compartment and has first and second shaft ends extending axially therefrom. The first shaft end extends into the first scroll chamber and the second shaft end extends into the second scroll chamber. A first fan is mounted onto the first shaft end within the first scroll chamber for rotational movement within the first scroll chamber and a second fan is mounted onto the second shaft end within the second scroll chamber for rotational movement within the second scroll chamber. Each of the first and second scroll chambers includes an expansion channel extending axially inward toward the motor.
Abstract:
An automotive transmission is equipped with a variety of gears that may be combined to yield one or more output speeds as compared to an input speed. One or more electromechanical actuators is used to engage or disengage a particular desired mix of gears. The electromechanical actuator engages one mix of gears or another to set the desired ratio of input speed to output speed. The transmission may be used to provide a straight-through, an underdrive speed range, or an overdrive speed range in an automotive transmission.
Abstract:
A power train assembly includes a housing having a exterior wall that defines a partition between an internal chamber and the environment. Portions of the exterior wall define a housing aperture within the exterior wall. A vent plug engages the portions of the exterior wall that define the housing aperture. Portions of the vent plug define a vent aperture that is smaller than the housing aperture.
