Abstract:
Pre-fabric, flexible and thermally stable plastic sheets are loaded with carbon additives such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene, nano carbon fibers, graphite powders, or other carbon allotropes to adjust the resistivity of the sheets as desired for ice protection. These sheets are both conformable to desired surfaces and prevent the carbon debris migration issues in traditional CNT heaters.
Abstract:
A deicer includes an aircraft structure and an outer layer with a sheet having a brittle point lower than −40° C. (−40° F.). The sheet includes a polyether urethane elastomer. A deicer includes an aircraft structure and an outer elastomer layer. The outer elastomer layer includes a non-woven fabric having polyether urethane fibers and one of (1) a carbon allotrope material aligned with at least one of the polyether urethane fibers and (2) a polyester urethane composition located on a portion of the non-woven fabric. A method of forming a layer of a deicer boot includes forming a polyether urethane elastomer sheet having a brittle point lower than −40° C. (−40° F.) and incorporating the polyether urethane elastomer sheet onto an aircraft structure.
Abstract:
A deicer boot includes a plurality of first elastomer fibers and a first carbon allotrope material selected from the group consisting of carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphite and carbon black. The first carbon allotrope material is aligned with one of the first elastomer fibers. The deicer boot also includes a plurality of second elastomer fibers and a second carbon allotrope material selected from the group consisting of carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphite and carbon black. The second carbon allotrope material is aligned with one of the second elastomer fibers. The second elastomer fibers are different from the first elastomer fibers.
Abstract:
The invention provides a novel method of preparing a filter media by thermally bonding silver-coated nanofiber fabrics to a dirt-retaining membrane, a chemical-retaining membrane, a pathogen-retaining membrane, or a combination thereof. The invention also relates to the use of silver-coated nanofiber fabric layer as a component of a microorganism-killing membrane in filter media for a liquid or air filtration system. The filter media of the invention offers efficient disinfection effects, maintaining a low pressure drop and a high flow rate when in use. Further, the filter media is adhesive-layer free and contains at least one thermal binding layer made of spunbonded nonwoven polymeric fabrics. The invention also features a water-purification cartridge and a portable water system thereof.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a metal component with an anti-microbial molecular layer may comprise: disposing the metal component in a piranha solution; washing the metal component; and grafting a surface of the metal component with a Si-Quat or hybrid Si-Quat molecular layer.
Abstract:
An ice protection system for an aircraft component includes a plurality of heaters. The aircraft component has at least two section and a junction area. At least one of the heaters is an H-shape carbon allotrope heater designed to apply heat to the junction area and prevent ice accumulation in the junction area.
Abstract:
A heated floor panel may comprise a base assembly and a heating element located on a first surface of the base assembly. A panel skin may be located over the heating element and the first surface of the base assembly. The panel skin may extend from the first surface of the base assembly to a second surface of the base assembly opposite the first surface of the base assembly.

Abstract:
A method of making an adhesive for an ice protection assembly includes transferring Z-CNTs from a substrate carrier into the adhesive. De-bonding of the adhesive for ice protection assembly inspection or repair or repositioning at initial installation includes heating the Z-CNTs in the adhesive to soften the adhesive and allow for easy removal.
Abstract:
A method of coating a high-pressure fluid vessel comprises filling a high-pressure fluid vessel with a coating solution, draining the coating solution, and drying a remainder of the coating solution in the high-pressure fluid vessel. The coating solution may include a thermoplastic elastomer that is hard with a low glass transition temperature and a high melting temperature. Drying the remainder of the coating solution may form a food grade coating within the high-pressure fluid vessel.
