摘要: A microelectrophoresis chip comprises a substrate in which there are formed one or more channels, one channel for each sample to be evaluated. The channels extend for the length of the chip, a distance of generally around 1 cm, and are about 1 to 10 &mgr;m wide and 1 to 10 &mgr;m in depth. The channels are filled with a homogeneous separation matrix which acts as an obstacle to the electrophoretic migration of the charged molecules. Microelectrodes disposed in the channels are used to induce an electric field within the homogeneous separation medium. When a voltage is applied across two or more of the microelectrodes, the charged molecules are induced to move and separate according to the electric field density, the type of solvent film, and the charge, shape and size of the charged molecule. The chip may further comprise detectors, such as light polarization detectors, fluorescence emission detectors, biosensors, electrochemical sensors or other microcomponents which may include sites for enzymatic or chemical manipulation of the moved or separated charged molecules.

摘要: Improved detection methods and apparatus which may be used individually or in various combinations enhance the ability of the electrophoresis apparatus to detect fluorophore-labeled materials in short periods of time. One such apparatus comprises a housing adapted to receive an electrophoresis gel holder; an excitation source of electromagnetic radiation having a frequency effective to induce emission of electromagnetic radiation from the fluorophore; a plurality of optical fibers for delivering electromagnetic radiation from the excitation source to a linear array of excitation/detection sites on the gel holder, optical switching means for sequentially directing electromagnetic radiation into one of several pre-defined groups of the optical fibers; detection means such as a photomultiplier tube, or an array of photomultiplier tubes for detecting emission from the fluorophore induced by a radiation from the excitation source; and means for correlating a detected emission with the switching of the excitation electromagnetic radiation such that a given emission may be linked with the excitation/detection site being irradiated.

摘要: An electrophoresis microgel is formed in a gel holder. The gel holder comprises a top substrate, a bottom substrate and a spacer disposed between the top substrate and the bottom substrate. The spacer establishes a separation of from 25 to 250 microns between the top substrate and the bottom substrate. A gel compartment is formed by partially sealing the top substrate to the bottom substrate, while leaving an opening for the introduction of unpolymerized gel. The gel compartment is then filled with an unpolymerized gel, which is polymerized in the gel compartment. Electrodes may be printed on the substrates, may be contacts to an exposed edge of gel, or may be applied through windows cut into one of the substrates. One type of gel holder makes use of graded beads having a diameter of 25 to 250 microns slurried in an adhesive such as an acrylate adhesive as the spacer. The slurry is printed onto the surface of one or both substrates to form a spacer of the desired shape, and then hardened using heat or light. If desired, the spacer can establish lanes within the gel.

摘要: The system employs full transceivers, each having peer-to-peer, client/server, and IP networking capabilities, and covering open-area ranges of up to 100 feet. The system uses Low Frequency for data communications so it can achieve both low cost (less costly than many RF-ID tags) and long battery life (10-15 years). Additionally, since these tags have batteries, static RAM maybe be added at very low cost, as well as sensors, LED's displays etc. The system also employs a sidewinder that communicates to said tag regularly, said sidewinder keeps the IP address of said tag. The system also employs an embedded VPN. The VPN includes a suite of diagnostic tools that run on a laptop. The diagnostic tools talk direct to the sidewinder, the tools read and program said tag providing the tools have correct IP address of the tag. The system also includes a visibility data server that communicates to the sidewinder by the VPN. The data server includes a virtual tag data base, said virtual tag data base updated by the sidewinder. The web enabled reports and control are managed by two “plugs”. The SQL plug supports data requests, and the Air Traffic Control (ATC) plug provides control (LED's, read rates). The system also employs a user web based ERP to create a real-time visibility reports and a user event export tools to create reports that fit a specific event.

摘要: Reliable and cost effective testing for mutations in the RB1 gene can be accomplished by (a) quantitatively amplifying exons of the sample RB1 gene using primers complementary to intron regions flanking each exon; and (b) determining the lengths and/or quantities of the amplification products for each exon and comparing that length or quantity to the length or quantity of amplification products obtained when a wild-type RB1 gene is amplified using the same primers. Differences in length between an amplified sample exon and the corresponding amplified wild-type exon reflect the occurrence on an insertion or deletion mutation in the sample RB1 gene. Differences in quantity reflect the complete absence of an exon, or heterozygosity for a mutant exon. Next, the nucleic acid sequence of each exon found to contain an insertion or deletion mutation is determined, or of all exons in the event no insertion or deletion mutations are identified. Preferably, the amplification of the exons is multiplexed so that more than one exon is amplified in a single vessel using sets of primers which provide gene fragments of distinctive lengths when used to amplify a normal RB1 gene.

摘要: The invention comprises a low power broadcast system that is applicable especially to the so-called "electronic shelf" for retail stores, wherein the shelf edge carries price displaying modules that can be addressed and controlled from a central computer operated station. The system also permits the modules to broadcast back to the central station to confirm safe receipt of data and to give information as to stock levels, etc. A broadcast system avoids the need for wiring so that location changes are facilitated. To overcome the extremely noisy environment and to conserve power consumption, and hence battery life, the system employs a low frequency (132 kHz) reference carrier transmitted by the base station in discrete segmented packages, each of which frames a base data word transmitted by the base station and a corresponding module data word transmitted by the module a fixed period after the end of the base word; the base receiver then has precise time information for receipt of the module word and can "look" for it among the noise. The carrier received by the module is divided and the lower frequency used to demodulate the information-carrying transmission from the base station of the same frequency, avoiding the need for a phase locked loop detector; this lower frequency is also used for the module transmission. The module employs an air-cored loop antenna coil for the lower frequency and a ferrite-cored loop antenna for the higher reference frequency, while the store antenna is segmented for selection of the group of modules to be addressed; the antenna contacts the metal shelving to provide electromagnetic coupling thereto. Each module contains a microprocessor which controls the operation. Each module has "concealed" buttons which can be enabled and used to insert data to be transmitted therefrom. A charging circuit can be used as the power source employing the received RF carrier energy.
