A user terminal in a telecommunications network includes a circuit-switched (CS) telephony device and a packet-switched (PS) data processing device. The CS telephony device receives a CS-alert signal from the network for an incoming CS call and derives from the CS-alert signal that an associated PS signal is to be expected within a predetermined time interval. The terminal postpones generation of a call-received alarm for a user during the predetermined time interval. The PS data processing device receives the associated PS signal within the predetermined time interval, wherein the PS signal includes a request that the user terminal automatically answer the incoming CS call. In response to the request, the PS data processing device passes a control signal to the CS telephony device causing the CS telephony device to switch to an automatic answering mode and transmit a CS-answer signal to the network without input from the user.

Combinational networks provide simultaneous connectivity via networks of different network type between user equipment. For communication sessions on different network types, belonging to the same user equipment, a correlation check is enabled by introduction of an identifier denoted as Combinational Call Indicator (CCI). This CCI identifier in combination with the known Calling Line Identity (CLI) identifier enables user equipment and other and network entities to perform a correlation check between ongoing, or to be established, CScalls and PS-sessions. A user equipment, setting up a related communication session, sets the CCI identifier and provides the CCI identifier during the communication session setup towards the receiving user equipment or network entity, which is enabled to check whether the last received communication session is correlated to the earlier established session due to the presence of the CCI identifier.

The invention relates to a method of handling a telephone call initiated from a calling terminal in a circuit switched telecommunications network by providing called party identification data of a called party to said network. In the method proposed said call i s set up by obtaining answering party identification data from a service control point associated with said called party based on said provided called party identification data. Communication is provided through said network between said calling terminal and an answering terminal identified using said answering party identification data. Said answering party identification data is made available to at least one service control point in said network for identifying services associated with said answering terminal. The invention further relates to a switching device for use with said method.

Techniques utilising Time Scale Modification (TSM) of signals are described. The signal is analysed and divided into frames of similar signal types. Techniques specific to the signal type are then applied to the frames thereby optimising the modification process. The method of the present invention enables TSM of different audio signal parts to be realized using different methods, and a system for effecting said method is also described.

Provided are a scalable wide-band speech coding/decoding apparatus, method, and medium. An input wide-band speech input signal is first divided into a low-band signal and a high-band signal. The divided low-band signal is then coded using a code excited linear prediction (CELP) method. The divided high-band signal is coded using a harmonic method. A signal representing a difference between a synthetic signal obtained from the low-band and the high band, and a signal input to the low-band and the high-band is then coded using a modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) method. The coded signal is then multiplexed. The multiplexed signal is then output. Accordingly, high quality speech can be achieved for all layers.

An apparatus and a method are provided in a wireless local area network mesh communication system having one wireless interface and multi-channels for improving the performance of the WLAN mesh communication system. A transmitter and a receiver are set to use different channels respectively. A first channel is assigned as a dedicated channel for transmitting data frames and a second channel is assigned as a common channel which receives a control frame, while transmitting the data frames through the first channel. Thus, the control frame is received, while transmitting the data frames, to obtain information relating to the channels which are not already in use and to effectively use the channels, thereby improving the capacity of the network.
