Abstract:
A vacuum switching tube contains a switching chamber and a first contact piece fixed in place in it, as well as a movable current conducting rod with a second contact piece and a ring-shaped insulator. According to the present invention, the ring-shaped insulator has at least one end surface on the vacuum side, which is at least partially free of metallization, and which faces away from the metal vapor formed during switching and is therefore protected against condensation. It is advantageous if a gap with a pre-determined length and height is formed by the end surface of the insulator and by at least one adjacent metallic flange.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a saw chain for a motor-driven chain saw equipped with a guide bar and for which lubricating oil is continuously supplied during operation. The oil reaches the guide groove of the guide bar and is directed to the pivotal joints of the saw chain. The oil is taken up by the foot portions of the center links of the saw chain which engage the guide groove. Groove-like channels are provided in a side face of these foot portions via which the lubricating oil is conducted to the pivotal joints. Lubricant pockets are provided in the foot portions of the center links of the saw chain which are supplementary to the channels so that the center links can take along a greater quantity of lubricant. This lubricant then reaches the pivotal joints through the channels especially at the forward end of the guide bar where the saw chain changes direction. This flow of the lubricant to the pivotal joints occurs at the turn-around location because of the centrifugal force which acts on the lubricant as the saw chain moves around the forward end of the guide bar so that an adequate lubrication is assured even at this forward region and also at the lower portion of the turn-around region where the cutting action of the saw chain takes place.
Abstract:
A continuous stream of tobacco shreds is built at the underside of the lower reach of an air-permeable belt conveyor by conveying tobacco shreds in currents of air which impinge upon the lower reach of the conveyor at a variable angle and at a variable speed. The density of various layers of the stream at a plurality of points at different distances from the lower reach of the conveyor is monitored by a device which directs X-rays transversely across the stream and has a uni- or two-dimensional detector with one or more rows of diodes exposed to X-rays which have penetrated through the stream. The signals which are thereby generated by the diodes denote the monitored density at the plurality of points and are scanned, evaluated and processed to actuate one or more servomotors which vary one or more parameters that influence the orientation of shreds in the stream, the density and/or other characteristics of the stream. Such parameters can include the subatmospheric pressure at one side of the lower reach of the conveyor, the direction of flow, speed and/or quantity of air which transports the shreds to the conveyor, the rate of admission of tobacco shreds into the air current or currents, and/or the position of the trimming device which removes the surplus from the stream. The signals can be used to vary the parameters which influence the characteristics of the entire stream and/or to vary one or more parameters which influence the density and/or other characteristics of one or more layers of the stream.
Abstract:
A saw chain has pivotally interconnected chain links which includes cutting links and safety links and these links are effective as working links. The cutting links are each provided with a cutting tooth for cutting into wood and the safety links are each provided with a projection which limits the depth of the cut of the cutting tooth which follows the safety link. The pivot axes of the chain links lie in an action plane above the guide bar in the stretched portion of the saw chain when the latter is subjected to the pulling force exerted by the drive of the chain saw. The cutting links are pivotable with respect to this plane. In addition, the safety links can also be pivotable in this manner. When the cutting links are in their pivoted-out position under this pulling force, no clearance angle is available at the roof of the cutting tooth so that the cutting edge has no cutting effect. For this reason, there is no kickback when the saw chain is placed against the wood. When an advancing thrust is applied to the chain saw, the cutting links in the stretched running portion of the chain are pivoted into their pivoted back position or working position by means of reaction forces; whereas, in the direction-reversal region of the guide bar, the cutting links are retained in their pivoted-out position by means of the support imparted to the drive links by the nose sprocket of the guide bar. In this way, the danger of kickback remains low.
Abstract:
A device for applying a treatment medium, especially in foam form, to a running web of material, especially a rug web, with an application beam extending transversely to the web of material, the application beam having a longitudinal slot, through which the treatment medium emerges onto the web of material. On the side opposite the slot an elastic cushion which presses the web of material against the sliding surface of the application beam is arranged on the back of the web of material. The cushion may be an inflatable elastic hollow body or a foam material cushion.

An apparatus for determining the transit times of ultrasonic pulses in a fluid has at least two electroacoustic converters (11, 20) arranged spaced apart in the fluid. An electrical signal proportional to the sound pressure generated at the transmitting converter (11) is derived from the transmitting converter (11) and is fed to the input of a correlation circuit (12).

Abstract:
A vacuum switch tube has a housing which has two insulating housing regions arranged and configured symmetrically in respect of a center plane. Each of the two insulating housings contains a plurality of insulating housing parts. Shielding elements extend into the interior of the vacuum switch tube and are arranged between neighboring insulating housing parts and between insulating housing parts and neighboring additional housing parts. The shielding elements have improved dielectric properties and a simultaneously material-saving structure. Accordingly, the geometrical dimensions of the shielding elements are determined in dependence on a connected voltage and possible critical field strength between neighboring shields.
