Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide a method for the detection and/or quantification of the 14-3-3 proteins or their isoforms for early stage diagnosis of TSE-diseases, which method allows to perform the diagnosis in the living organism. It is furthermore an object, to detect a contamination of the sample by the parallel determination of a second antigen. This object according to the invention is solved by making use of the biochemical characteristics of the members of the 14-3-3 protein family, which bind to specific amino acid motifs like X(n)-XSXXSXXSX-X(n) or to the motif RSXpSXP (SEQ ID NO: 12) within peptides or proteins. For determining one or more isoforms or the entirety of the 14-3-3 protein(s) and for specific binding, one uses modified solid phases like e.g. microtiter plates, which are coated with a synthetic or natural peptide containing a binding motif for 14-3-3 proteins, e.g. a chemically synthesised peptide having the motif CAALPKINRSApSEPSLHR (SEQ ID NO: 1). After the addition of the extracts or bodily fluids to be investigated the detection and quantification of the generated peptide-14-3-3 protein complexes is accomplished by means of labeled antibodies. The use of the 14-3-3 protein family and/or of individual isoforms of the 14-3-3 proteins according to the invention can be employed as an effect monitor or biomonitor in aquatic invertebrates after environmental effects like the presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), (xeno)estrogens etc. Moreover, the method can be used for early diagnosis of TSE-diseases like e.g. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and its novel form (variant) in young persons (vCJD) and Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) or comparable diseases. Thus a diagnostic marker (surrogate marker) is available, which can be used in the living organism as a screening marker, confirmation marker or single marker.

Abstract: The machine tool comprises two headstocks (16,17), arranged on a support (10), which are movable independently of each other along their height and their longitudinal direction. A respective one (17) of the headstocks is active in the treatment of a workpiece attached on a workpiece carrier (20), while the other headstock (16) can be moved behind a tool magazine (24) for receiving a tool therefrom. While the one headstock is still working on the workpiece, the other headstock with the next tool can already be accelerated to the required working rotational speed and be advanced to the tool. Thus, the time required for exchange of tools is extremely shortened.

Abstract: Prior art methods calibrate the travel path and/or the angular position of holding devices in equipment for manufacturing electrical assemblies by optical measurements of the position of simulations of electrical components that are equipped on a calibration substrate. Markings on the simulations and local reference marks on the calibration substrate serve this purpose. Printed circuit board cameras that are utilized as optical sensors exhibit a pronounced camera distortion that makes the calibration more difficult. As a result of the method, the apparatus as well as the calibration substrate, a sensor correction factor is determined in that the position of two correction marks that are applied on the calibration substrate at a predetermined nominal spacing and a predetermined position relative to one another are measured with the printed circuit board camera. The result of the measurement is compared to the nominal spacing.

Abstract: Bone and cartilage are regenerated in a patient by a process of removing fatty tissue such as omentum tissue from a patient, comminuting the tissue to form small tissue particles, suspending the particles in a liquid to form a suspension, depositing the suspension on a solid carrier to prepare a solid implanting material, implanting the implanting material in a patient in an environment favoring bone or cartilage formation, and regenerating bone or cartilage in the patient. The carrier can be demineralized bone, collagen, mineral material or synthetic polymer material in pulverulent, textile, porous particle or monolith form. A cell adhesion agent may be applied to the carrier or added to the suspension, and a growth factor may be deposited on the carrier. Comminuting is performed by digesting with an enzyme and/by mechanically comminuting. Liquid used to form the suspension may contain a gel precursor which is gelled after the suspension is deposited to the carrier. Preferably, the implanting material is implanted within about 1 hour of removing the fatty tissue from the patient.
