摘要: A hermetically sealed photonic device submount includes a photonic device mounted on a substrate material and sealed in a flexible hermetic seal. In one configuration, the photonic device is configured to emit or to receive light through the substrate material. In this configuration, the photonic device is covered with an adhesive layer and a metal layer deposited onto the adhesive layer. In another configuration, the photonic device is configured to emit or to receive light in a direction substantially vertically upward from the substrate material. In this configuration, a cover is placed over the photonic device, then the cover is hermetically sealed to the substrate material with an adhesive layer and a metal layer depositd onto the adhesive layer. In both configurations, the photonic device submounts are hermetically sealed according to various aspects of the present invention on the substrate material without using a separate package. Accordingly, any number of hermetically sealed photonic device submounts can be mass produced on wafers using the present invention.

摘要: An optical header for coupling an edge emitter light source to an optical fiber is disclosed. The header preferably includes a ceramic or silicon substrate that has a recess for an edge emitting laser. An optical fiber is preferably attached to a substrate and terminates at a light source. The optical fiber is oriented such that the elliptical beam of light produced is situated such that the longer axis of the elliptical beam is orthogonal to the optical fiber. The header is particularly useful when used in conjunction with an optical receiver to form a bidirectional optical transceiver.

摘要: A flexible hermetic sealing and method for making the same. Electronic components are coated with an adhesive such as an epoxy, and then a metallic layer consisting of gold, silver, nickel, or another metal is deposited thereon. The metal may be deposited by, for example, any well-known evaporating, sputtering or plating technique. The resultant seal is truly hermetic, and is suitable for use on individual electronic or optical components on a chip.

摘要: An apparatus such as a user equipment is in an embodiment of the invention configured to broadcast an access request to at least one neighboring node, the access request containing signature information indicating a user identifier, to check whether a collision indicator is received from a relay node, and to send another access request depending on a received collision indicator. The collision indicator may e.g. be a signature collision indicator, received from the node in case of colliding users, or a collision indicator of transmission received when transmissions of access requests are colliding at the node. A relay node may be configured to receive an access request from a user equipment, to detect a collision, and to inform the user equipment on a detected collision, indicating a type of collision.
