    摘要: A pilot chamber is formed at the back of a disk valve for each of the fluid flow systems for the extension and compression strokes. Damping force in a low piston speed region is controlled with a pressure control valve. The valve opening pressure of the disk valve is controlled by varying a pilot pressure introduced into the pilot chamber from a cylinder's hydraulic fluid chamber through a cut portion in a piston bolt and an orifice groove formed in a fixed member supporting the disk valve, thereby controlling damping force in a high piston speed region. A sharp pressure change occurring when the stroke direction of a piston rod changes is attenuated by the restricting action of the orifice groove so as not to be readily transmittable to the pilot chamber.

    摘要: An optical fiber made up of a core for propagating the light and a cladding covering the core for interrupting light propagated within the core. The optical fiber includes a tip formed by sharpening an end of the core in a tapering fashion, a light-shielding coating layer formed on the surface of the tip and an aperture formed by exposing the foremost part of the tip from the light-shielding coating layer to outside. The light-shielding coating layer operates as a light shielding portion for interrupting the light radiated on other than the aperture and light enters or exits only at the aperture, and light is propagated in the core as it is repeatedly reflected at a core-cladding boundary and is collected at the tip so as to be radiated via the aperture. The light entering the tip via the aperture is conducted into the core via the tip.

    摘要: A failure determination method for an O.sub.2 sensor is provided wherein the air-fuel ratio of a mixture is maintained at a value which produces a leaner or richer air-fuel ratio than a stoichiometric ratio by a predetermined value, for a predetermined time after an engine starts operating in an idle region, to thereby make the oxygen concentration of exhaust gas surrounding the O.sub.2 sensor uniform. Subsequently, the air-fuel ratio is forcibly subjected to an oscillatory change with a predetermined amplitude of .+-.10 to 15% of the stoichiometric ratio with respect to the stoichiometric ratio at a predetermined frequency of several Hz, to determine abnormality of the O.sub.2 sensor based on the change of the output voltage of the O.sub.2 sensor.

    摘要: An engine valve driving device includes a rocker arm attached at one end to a valve stem and carrying at its opposite end a roller which engages the surfaces of a stepped cam plate. The cam plate has a horizontal surface which includes upper and lower portions joined by an inclined portion so that horizontal reciprocating motion operates the rocker arm and the connected valve. The cam plate is connected to a rotary cam crank shaft so that rotation of the crank shaft produces linear reciprocating motion in the cam plate. The connection between the cam shaft and the cam plate is adjustable, as by a hydraulic cylinder, to vary the gap between the cam plate and the cam shaft and to thereby vary the timing of the motion of the valve with respect to the rotation of the cam shaft. In an alternative form, the connection between the cam and the cam shaft may be a pivotal lever, with the pivot point of the lever being movable to provide timing adjustment.
