Abstract: A morphable packer and method of setting the packer to anchor one tubular within another tubular or borehole, and create a seal across an annulus in a well bore. The packer is formed as a single tubular member having a central section between end sections. Undulations are formed on the tubular member to create recesses in which annular slips having oppositely arranged inclined surfaces and an outer gripping surface are located to provide an anchoring arrangement. When morphed the slips move uniformly radially outwards and anchor to an outer tubular. Embodiments include pairs of reversed slips located in the recess, pairs of anchoring arrangements located along the tubular member and a gasket seal arranged around the tubular member.

Abstract: A downhole tool, tool assembly, and method, of which the downhole tool includes an expandable sleeve defining a bore extending axially therethrough, and including a shoulder that extends inward from the bore, a first swage positioned at least partially within the bore and including a valve seat configured to receive an obstructing member, such that the obstructing member and the first swage substantially prevent fluid communication through the bore when the obstructing member is seated in the valve seat, a second swage positioned at least partially within the bore. The first and second swages are configured to deform the expandable sleeve radially outwards when the first and second swages are moved toward one another within the expandable sleeve, and the shoulder is configured to prevent at least one of the first and second swages from sliding therepast.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a downhole drilling method for drilling a well in a formation having a formation pressure. The downhole drilling method comprises providing a drill string having a first part and a second part, the second part being arranged closer to a top of the well than the first part, and the first part having a drilling head in a first end and an annular barrier arranged closer to the top of the well than the drilling head. The annular barrier comprises a tubular metal part for mounting as part of the first part of the drill string, the tubular metal part having an outer face; an expandable metal sleeve surrounding the tubular metal part and having an inner face facing the tubular metal part and an outer face facing an inner face of a borehole of the well, each end of the expandable metal sleeve being connected with the tubular metal part; and an annular space between the inner face of the expandable metal sleeve and the tubular metal part, the expandable metal sleeve being configured to expand. The downhole drilling method furthermore comprises drilling the borehole by means of the drilling head; detecting the formation pressure to determine any loss of formation pressure; stopping the drilling; dropping a ball into the drill string; pressurising the drill string until the ball reaches a ball seat arranged opposite or below the annular barrier; expanding the expandable metal sleeve by further pressurising the drill string until the expandable metal sleeve abuts the inner face of the borehole; separating the second part of the drill string from the first part; pulling the second part out of the borehole; and injecting cement into the borehole above the first part to provide a cement plug above the first part. The present invention furthermore relates to a downhole drilling system for performing the downhole drilling method according to the present invention and to a downhole completion system.

Abstract: A coiled adaptive seat is held to a smaller diameter for delivery with a tool that can feature a locating lug for desired alignment of the seat with an intended groove in the inner wall of a tubular. The release tool retracts a cover from the seat allowing its diameter to increase as it enters a groove. Alternatively the adaptive seat is released near the groove and pushed axially in the string to the groove for fixation. Once in the groove the inside diameter of the string is a support for a blocking object so that sequential treatment of parts of a zone can be accomplished. The blocking object is removed with pressure, dissolving, milling or disintegration leaving a narrow ledge in the tubular bore from the seat that can simply be left in place or milled as well. An E4#10 from Baker Hughes is modified for adaptive seat delivery.

Abstract: A packoff device is disclosed for sealing an annulus within a wellbore, and for bypassing the sealed annulus. The packoff device may include a mandrel having a bore formed axially therethrough and first and second ports extending radially from the bore. A sealing element that extends radially-outwardly from the mandrel may be positioned axially between the first and second ports, and may create a seal within an annulus between the mandrel and a casing, to isolate a portion of the annulus above the sealing element from a portion below the sealing element. A sleeve within the bore may, with the mandrel, form a channel providing fluid communication between the first and second ports. The sleeve may be movable between open and closed states. The first and second ports may be unobstructed by the sleeve in the open state, one or more may be obstructed in the closed state.
