    摘要: In an interferometric sensing apparatus, a scrambler is positioned in front of a polarizer, followed by a detector. In that way, although the two beams remain orthogonal to each other, they are continuously rotated, relative to the polarizer. In some positions, both beams pass through the polarizer and interfere, thus eliminating polarization fading. The signal is amplitude modulated at the rotation frequency of the scrambler, but this modulation is removed by low pass filtering.

    摘要: A structure for incorporating fiber optic acoustic sensor in a seismic array includes means for supporting the sensor in a spiral around a central strength member in a manner to isolate shear waves from the sensor. In another aspect, an axially oriented sensor in a seismic array comprises a pressure sensitive optical fiber wound in a spiral around the axis, the fiber having a plurality of optical Bragg gratings and a plurality of channels. The preferred structure may include four tubes spiraling around the strength member. One of the tubes encloses an optical fiber sensor which is maintained in an extended orientation by fluid flow through the tube. Another of the tubes serves as a return path for fluid through the sensor tube. The other tubes enclose high speed and low speed data conductors, respectively. The sensor fiber may also be wound in a spiral around a compliant core in a manner to satisfy Poisson's Ratio such that strain on the compliant core does not alter the tension of the sensor fiber.

    摘要: An integrated-optics extension interferometer, in which the measuring and reference arm, the beam splitter and the beam coupler as well as entrances and exits for primary light and interference light are integrated in the baseplate, can be applied in the manner of a wire strain gauge to components to be investigated. The portions of the waveguide which form the measuring and reference arm are integrated over their entire length in the baseplate, and are disposed in a plurality of loops with mutually parallel oriented straight active partial sections and intermediate deflecting sections, in which a coupling free mutual minimum spacing of all straight active partial sections and deflecting sections of the integrated waveguides forming the measuring and reference arm respectively is observed at all locations. As a result of this, the fundamental interferometer can be applied to the surface of stressed workpieces in a manner which is as simple and space-saving as a conventional electrical-resistance wire strain gauge for extension measurements. In order to achieve an automatic compensation of the extension due to temperature, the reference arm is also expediently wound in the manner of loops and is designed to be of the same length as the measuring arm, but is disposed in an extension-metrologically neutral manner. An integrated-optics extension interferometers of double-beam construction according to Michelson or according to Mach-Zehnder and those of so-called multibeam construction according to Fabry-Perot are possible.

In the present invention, a heterodyne interference is generated by the two lasers with different frequency, the amounts of physical quantities are determined by detecting the frequency difference; and because the frequencies of the laser oscillations are sensitive to the changes of the optical paths in the resonators, the sensitivity and accuracy of the sensor are high, and the two resonators of the sensor have common optical path, such that the sensor has good anti-jamming capacity and is suitable for measuring the small changes in a variety of physical quantities.
