The present invention provides a fixture and method for mounting a head window to a frame for use in a submarine periscope system. The fixture supports the head window during the potting of the head window to the frame. A spring-loaded clamping plate is mountable to a baseplate for relative movement therebetween. The clamping assembly has an oval recessed portion. A plurality of spaced apart feet are formed within the oval. The feet support and are bonded to the head window. Shim stock are placed between the feet to define a critical gap.

The coating arrays comprise a first layer and a second layer with an adhesive interface therebetween. The first layer separates from the second layer upon application of energy to the interface. The method is applicable to many areas including ship antifouling, medical antifouling (antibacterial), chemical biological warfare agent removal, anti-corrosion, etc. It can be applied to substrates including: ships, vehicles (cars), windows, walls of buildings, clothing, etc.

A submarine floating periscope comprising: (a) a floating base; (b) a scanning unit for scanning and acquiring images, and; (c) cables between the submarine and the periscope for maintaining the periscope in the vicinity of the submarine, and for enabling communication between the periscope and the submarine. The scanning unit comprises: (i) a transparent dome; (b) a two-degrees of freedom gimbals system in a hollow portion below the dome. The gimbals system includes a mechanism for changing the orientation of a plate within the hollow portion by applying rotation about two perpendicular axes; (c) a light sensing element, for sensing light coming from outside the dome thereby forming images, the sensing unit being positioned on said plate, preferably in its center; and (d) a modem for transferring images data and other data between the periscope and the submarine.

A panoramic view of the world surrounding a stationary mast of a submarine is provided by a plurality of small windows disposed circumferentially around the mast and a corresponding plurality of lenses for imaging the fields of view thereof onto coherent fiber optic image bundles. The fields of view of the lenses overlap to provide a complete panoramic view. The exit ends of the image guides are arranged to form a polygonal opening so that a replica of the panoramic view is provided within the opening. A mirror or prism rotating within the opening scans the view replica and directs the scanned image to a stationary television camera. A derotating prism in the path of the directed scanned image rotates at one-half the angular displacement of the image director to compensate for rotation imparted to the scanned image by the image director.

The housing includes first and second walls opposed to each other and in part defining a pocket, the first wall being nonferrous and the second wall being magnetically permeable, the pocket being adapted to receive the lens assembly with the grip of the frame extending beyond the pocket. The magnets interact with the magnetically permeable second wall of the pocket to releasably retain the lens assembly in the lens assembly housing.
