A loop component for a hook-and-loop fastener includes a knit fabric and a plurality of loops extending along one surface of the fabric and made of a monofilament pile yarn such as nylon. The component is knit on a three or more bar machine with one bar forming the base and two or more additional bars forming floats which are then pulled out of the knit fabric by napping to obtain a fabric having a predetermined thickness. The fabric is then heat sense to stabilize is dimensions, stiffness and other physical properties.

A resin-impregnated endless belt for a long nip press or calender of the shoe type, or for other papermaking and paper-processing applications, has a base fabric in the form of an endless loop with an inner surface, an outer surface, a machine direction and a cross-machine direction. The base fabric has machine-direction (MD) structural elements and cross-machine-direction (CD) structural elements in an open structure wherein at least some of the MD structural elements and CD structural elements are spaced apart from one another. The MD structural elements cross the CD structural elements at a plurality of crossing points, where they are joined to one another by mechanical, chemical or thermobonding means. A coating of a first polymeric resin is on the inner surface of the base fabric. The first polymeric resin impregnates and renders the base fabric impermeable to liquids, and forms a layer on the inner surface thereof. The coating is smooth and provides the belt with a uniform thickness. A method for manufacturing the belt, using a smooth and polished cylindrical mandrel with a spacer ring slidably disposed thereon, is also shown.

An improved warp/knit stitch reinforced multi-axial non-crimp layered fabric sheet used in structural applications, as for example, in aircraft and water applications, e.g. the skin of an airplane wing or fuselage structure, in water applications, e.g. skins of surfboards and boats, and in other areas where high strength and relatively light weight is required. The fabric is comprised of a plurality of plies facewise disposed upon one another and knitted or stitched to form a structural sheet. Each fabric ply is made of strands of aligned structural fibers which can be later impregnated and even pre-impregnated with a resin curable matrix. The improved sheet is formed by applying unidirectional non-crimp and non-woven plies of different angular relationship to one another, e.g. a +45.degree., a 90.degree. and a -45.degree. ply and locating 0.degree. plies in essentially any position in the ply arrangement such that the 0.degree. ply can be on the bottom of the sheet, on top of the sheet, or interposed between plural ply layers of the sheet. The sheets are then knitted or stitched together to make a stack of multi-axial fabric layers. The fiber weight and thickness can also be varied throughout the sheets by using plies of different thicknesses or differing weights of fibers. Moreover, the percentage of a certain type of fiber in a particular ply can be varied. In addition, damage tolerance can be built into the cured laminate. Further, doublers and local area reinforcements can also be included in the sheet. In addition, a warp/knit, or warp/stitched fabric may be made to a desired width without otherwise affecting the structural properties of the sheet. An apparatus and a method for producing the fabric sheets is also disclosed.

This invention provides a multi-layer material designed to cover ceramic armor applied to military vehicles, which suppresses ceramic shrapnel created during a ballistic event up to the magnitude of a 0.50 caliber at 2000-2200 feet per second at zero degree obliquity. This material is a laminate comprising of three distinct layers of fabric. The middle layer is a heavy ballistic nylon or polyester fabric. A nylon fabric of this nature weighs between fifteen to thirty-five ounces per square yard and a polyester fabric of this nature weighs between fifteen to thirty-five ounces per square yard. This fabric can be either woven or knitted. The outer layer that is attached to the middle layer can be any type of decorative fabric, including woven, nonwoven and knit fabrics. This fabric should be relatively light weight and dyeable. The bottom layer of fabric is a loop pile, warp knit, weft-inserted fabric. The length of each loop, yarn type, and denier is adapted to comport to a particular hook system utilized on a particular military vehicle. These three layers of fabric are adhesively attached to each other.

An anti-vandalism layer, especially for application in vehicle seats, vehicle roofs, vehicle tarpaulins, tents, inflatable structures, wall facing, and similar objects having an incisible exterior layer and subject to vandalism, includes of a knit fabric having at least in part cut-resistant fibers such as aromatic polyamide fibers, gel-spun polyethylene fibers, or glass fibers is disclosed. In at least one thread system, the knit fabric contains a wire present in a thread system projecting from the surface of the knit fabric such that during subsequent gluing of the anti-vandalism layer to, for example, a textile flat structure, gluing tends to occur on this thread system.
