    摘要: A device for measuring a mechanical property of a tissue includes a probe configured to perturb the tissue with movement relative to a surface of the tissue, an actuator coupled to the probe to move the probe, a detector configured to measure a response of the tissue to the perturbation, and a controller coupled to the actuator and the detector. The controller drives the actuator using a stochastic sequence and determines the mechanical property of the tissue using the measured response received from the detector. The probe can be coupled to the tissue surface. The device can include a reference surface configured to contact the tissue surface. The probe may include a set of interchangeable heads, the set including a head for lateral movement of the probe and a head for perpendicular movement of the probe. The perturbation can include extension of the tissue with the probe or sliding the probe across the tissue surface and may also include indentation of the tissue with the probe. In some embodiments, the actuator includes a Lorentz force linear actuator. The mechanical property may be determined using non-linear stochastic system identification. The mechanical property may be indicative of, for example, tissue compliance and tissue elasticity. The device can further include a handle for manual application of the probe to the surface of the tissue and may include an accelerometer detecting an orientation of the probe. The device can be used to test skin tissue of an animal, plant tissue, such as fruit and vegetables, or any other biological tissue.

    摘要: A bone assessment apparatus for assessing bone by ultrasonic waves. A slider mechanism for supporting a platform is provided such that it is free to be given a parallel displacement. When a foot is placed on the platform and a pair of measuring units are brought close together, the platform starts to slide from when one of the units comes in contact with the foot. When the contact pressures of the two units are identical, the sliding motion stops. The center line of the foot is thereby made to coincide with the center line between transducers, and in this situation, ultrasonic waves are transmitted and received.

    摘要: An improved reflex gun (21) is adapted to measure certain parameters of a stimulus supplied to a tendon, and the patient's response thereto. The gun has a trigger (29) which, when squeezed, supplies a signal to a computer (24). The computer then causes a waveform generator (32) to provide current pulses of desired magnitude, shape and duration to a solenoid (50) in the gun. Such energization of the solenoid coil, causes a plunger (52) to impact against one end of a force sensor (22). The other end of the force sensor is held against the patient's skin with a preload force sufficient to measure the patient's response to a force stimulus. The force sensor has a transducer (132) for measuring the certain parameters of the impact force and the patient's response. The improved device may be used to determine quantitatively certain parameters of the stimulus and response, and provides a diagnostic tool for a physician.

    摘要: An apparatus for detecting loosening of an implant imbedded in a bone of a limb of a patient, includes a vibrator is pressed into engagement with the limb to impart vibratory motion to the bone. The vibrator is controlled to cause the vibratory motion to have a predetermined recurring pattern. A pickup device is pressed into engagement with the limb spaced from the vibrator over the same bone near the implant, for detecting the vibratory motion transmitted through the bone implant composite to generate an output signal. Implant loosening is determined when the recurring pattern of the output signal transmitted through the bone implant composite demonstrates sustained superimposition on the oscilloscope and/or significant secondary harmonics on the spectrum analyzer.

    摘要: A universal life support system adapted for use in an aircraft or spacecraft. The system includes components attached to the aircraft or spacecraft, components attached to the seat, and the ensemble to be worn. While appropriate gases and signals are sent between the craft and the seat, the seat connector at the suit side is adapted to receive any of the variety of connectors used with the ensembles that may be worn. While all potentially required gases, electrical signals, and electrical power are provided at the seat side of the seat-ensemble connection, the ensemble connector is configured to receive possibly only a subset of them. In addition, the ensemble connector can actuate a switch built into the seat connector to produce a signal indicative of the suit being worn. This signal provides information to the life support control system in the aircraft to cause the life support control system to adapt appropriate temperature and gas supply schedules.
