Abstract:
An apparatus for applying sealant to a side seam in a container sidewall formed by overlapping portions of the sidewall is provided. The apparatus includes conveying means operable for moving a container into and away from a sealing station. Sensing means is located adjacent the conveying means and is operable for sensing the rotational position of a container sidewall. Drive means is operable for selectively rotating a container to a predetermined rotational position. A sealant dispensing means is positioned adjacent the conveying means at the sealing station and is operable for dispensing sealant onto the seam along substantially the entire length of the seam by a movement of the dispensing means relative to the container. A second sealant dispensing means and station can be provided adjacent the conveying means for applying sealant to a seam between a bottom member and the sidewall of the container.
Abstract:
A method for the application of a sizing composition or the like to a traveling web under high speed conditions which involves passing the web into the nip formed between two counter-rotating rolls and supplying a sizing composition to the nip to thereby form a pond of sizing material on both sides of the traveling web. Additional amounts of sizing material are constantly being supplied to the ponds by means of a suitable applicator and nozzle arrangement, while the depth of the ponds is controlled continuously by the application of a reduced pressure to the existing ponds resulting in some of the sizing composition being drawn up into the applicator from where it is delivered to a reservoir for further circulation through the applicator.
Abstract:
It has been discovered that the adhesion of latex coatings to concrete surfaces can be significantly improved by prior treatment of the surface with an air curable, water soluble polymer. Preferred water soluble polymers cure oxidatively in a manner similar to drying oils.
Abstract:
Apparatus for repairing electric furnaces, ladles or the like while they are hot and which includes a centrifugal slinging machine that can be lowered into the hot furnace. The machine includes a centrifuging wheel which can deliver lining repair material radially outwardly and against the interior wall of the furnace. The centrifugal delivery portion of the machine can be selectively divided into sectors so that repair material can be selectively dispersed only against that portion of the interior furnace wall that needs repair or alternatively, the machine can deliver material to the entire circumference of the interior of the furnace. The machine has adjustable sliders which are provided around the circumference of the machine to selectively distribute the material around the interior of the furnace and the sliders are infinitely variable in their adjustment, and radial director vanes act in cooperation with the sliders. The machine also has a mixing worm vertically above the centrifuging wheel and located in the bottom of the material supply hopper. An upwardly tapering and stepless supporting cone is located in the hopper and is also vertically adjustable so as to form a variable annular clearance with the upwardly diverging hopper. An automatic clamping device is provided for selectively securing the machine on a supporting arm, whereby the machine can be quickly and easily adjusted in a variety of positions.
Abstract:
A method of and apparatus for sealing porous material defining a recess therein by placing sealing liquid in the recess, inserting a tubular means therein, pressure sealing said means with respect to the recess and forcing said sealing liquid into the pores by a gaseous pressure applied through said tubular means.
Abstract:
Dye tube for yarn in which flexible uprights spaced circumferentially around the axis of the tube and unsupported except at each end accommodate yarn shrinkage forces by bowing and recover their original diameter upon removal of the yarn, thereby allowing reuse, and uprights and top and bottom base portions of the tube define dye openings for high dye saturation.
Abstract:
AN APPARATUS INCLUDING A ROTATABLE SUPPORT FOR HOLDING A CATHODE-RAY TUBE COMPONENT, FOR EXAMPLE, A FUNNEL COMPRISING A SEALING SURFACE HAVING A CLOSED CONFIGURATION IN CLUDING RADIUSED CORNERS, AN INNER BORDER, AND AN OUTER BORDER, A MEANS FOR ROTATING THE SUPPORT, A SEALING-MATERIAL CONTAINER HAVING A BOTTOM OUTLET, A MEANS FOR TRACKING THE SEALING SURFACE WITH THE CONTAINER ALONG A FIRST PATH ON THE SIDES OF THE SEALING SURFACE, AND A MEANS FOR TRACKING THE SEALING SURFACE WITH THE CONTAINER ALONG A SECOND PATH DISPLACED TOWARDS THE OUTER BORDER ON THE CORNERS OF THE SEALING SURFACE. METHOD INCLUDES POSITIONING SEALING SURFACE OF THE CATHODE-RAY TUBE; FOR EXAMPLE, A FUNNELSEALING SURFACE IN A HORIZONTAL PLANE, MOVABLY POSITIONING A CONTAINER HAVING A BOTTOM OUTLET OVER THE SEALING SURFACE, ROTATING THE SEALING SURFACE ABOUT THE CENTER OF THE CLOSED CONFIGURATION, TRACKING SAID ROTATING SEALING SURFACE WITH THE OUTLET ALONG THE FIRST PATH, APPROACHING THE BEGINNING OF THE CORNERS OF THE SEALING SURFACE GRADUALLY MOVING THE OUTLET FROM THE FIRST PATH TO THE SECOND PATH, TRACKING THE ROTATING SEALING SURFACE WITH THE OUTLET ON EACH OF THE CORNERS AT THE SECOND PATH, APPROACHING THE ENDING OF EACH OF THE SEALING SURFACE CORNERS GRADUALLY MOVING SAID OUTLET FROM THE SECOND PATH TO THE FIRST PATH, AND DURING ROTATION DISPENSING A BEAD OF SEALING MATERIAL AT A UNIFORM RATE ON THE SEALING SURFACE.
