    摘要: A low-formaldehyde polymer latex composition includes a formaldehyde-scavenging agent selected froma) a compound having the formula ##STR1## wherein A is selected from O, NH, and NR.sup.2 ; R.sup.1 is selected from H, 3-allyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl, methacryloyl, acryloyl and methacryloxyaceto; and R.sup.2 is 3-allyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl when R' is 3-allyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl;b) a compound having the formula R.sup.3 CH.sub.2 R.sup.4, whereinR.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are both --C(O)OR.sup.5 ;R.sup.3 is CH.sub.3 C(O)-- and R.sup.4 is --C(O)OR.sup.5 ;R.sup.3 is --CN and R.sup.4 is selected from --C(O)NH.sub.2 and --C(O)OR.sup.5 ; orR.sup.3 is CH.sub.3 C(O)-- and R.sup.4 is --C(O)OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OC(O)C(CH.sub.3).dbd.CH.sub.2 ; andR.sup.5 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 hydrocarbon radical;c) a compound having the formulaNCCH.sub.2 C(O)OCH.sub.2 --CH--(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OC(O)CH.sub.2 CN).sub.2 ;d) hydroxylamine;e) salts of hydroxylamine with an acid, the acid having an acid dissociation constant the negative logarithm of which is no greater than about 5.0; andf) the polymerized residue of a compound having the formula ##STR2## wherein A is selected from O, NH, and NR.sup.2 ; R.sup.6 is selected from 3-allyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl, methacryloyl, acryloyl or methacryloxyaceto; and R.sup.2 is 3-allyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl when R' is 3-allyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl; andg) the polymerized residue of a compound having the formulaCH.sub.3 C(O)--CH.sub.2 --C(O)OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OC(O)C(CH.sub.3).dbd.CH.sub.2. The composition can also include a self-crosslinking polymer latex having N-methylol functional groups, such as from polymerized residues of N-methylolacrylamide or N-methylolmethacrylamide. In this case, the composition may be of use as a binder for textiles or non-woven materials. The scavenging agent reduces formaldehyde evolution during drying and curing of these compositions.

    摘要: The specification discloses a polymer and the method of using the same to prepare articles of manufacture, the composition comprising a water-soluble salt of a polymer containing pendant groups derived from an unsaturated drying oil fatty acid hydroxyamide, carboxy groups, carboxy ester groups and optionally the residues of other unsaturated addition polymerizable monomers, the carboxy units being present in a critical amount and the polymer having a critical glass transition temperature, molecular weight and the like. Aqueous coating compositions are disclosed in which the soluble polymer is either the sole polymeric vehicle or is combined with a water-insoluble polymer latex.

    摘要: The present invention is concerned with core and shell polymeric particles having microvoids in the core and one or more channels connecting the microvoids to the exterior of the particle. These particles, or LCAPs are produced by forming a core of polymeric acid, encasing the core in a shell polymer permeable to base, and then neutralizing the core such that the core swells, causing the shell to "explode" in a controlled fashion. This controlled explosion causes channels to form in the shell.These particles can be used as control release devices for target compounds, to impart reinforcing properties to acrylic films, as an opacifying agent in coating compositions, and as a supplement or replacement of part or all of the pigmentary material or extenders that would otherwise be used in such coating compositions.

    摘要: An aqueous, radiation-curable, functionalized latex polymer composition and its preparation are disclosed. The composition is a multistaged latex polymer formed from a first stage polymer and a second stage polymer having .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated carbonyl functionalization which permits curing by UV radiation. The composition dries tack-free before curing. The final cured UV coating has excellent solvent resistance, water resistance, stain resistance, direct impact resistance and hot print resistance. The composition is useful in coatings, adhesives, inks and leather coatings, and is particularly useful as a coating on wood. The multistaged latex polymer is made by(a) forming a multistage polymer having(1) a first stage polymer; and(2) a second stage polymer comprising at least one comonomer containing acid functionality;(b) partially neutralizing said acid functionality of said second stage polymer of said multistage polymer with a base; and(c) reacting said multistage polymer having partially neutralized acid functionality with a monoethylenically unsaturated epoxide compound.

    摘要: The specification discloses a polymer of ethylenically unsaturated monomers wherein the polymer comprises diamide mer units having pendant unsaturated, air-curable alkyl groups. Methods of making and using the polymers and articles made therefrom are taught. The polymer may be used in coating, bonding or adhering to substrates. Of particular importance are uses in paint compositions and in caulk compositions. The air-curable alkyl diamide mer unit is derived from an unsaturated drying oil. Aqueous coating compositions are disclosed in which the polymer is an ammonia or amine salt, in solution, and is either the sole polymeric vehicle or is combined with a water insoluble polymer latex.
