A glow plug driver adapted to be coupled to a power supply and a glow plug comprising first and second conductive leads for coupling the glow plug to the power supply and an electronic switch in the first lead having conductive and nonconductive states so that pulses of electrical energy can be supplied to the glow plug. A resistor and a capacitor are coupled between the leads in parallel with the glow plug so that the capacitor can charge when the electronic switch is in the conductive state and discharge when the electronic switch is in the nonconductive state. A timer is used to place the electronic switch in the conductive state for a predetermined amount of time. The timer is in turn controlled by a transistor having its base coupled to a junction between the resistor and the capacitor.

A pilot assembly for a furnace burner includes a housing having a first port capable of mating with a flame detector which can monitor the pilot or main flame of the furnace burner. The housing further includes an air-fuel mixture inlet port coaxially disposed with respect to a second port, which serves the purpose of mating with a spark ignition means. The axes of the fuel mixture inlet port and second port are substantially perpendicular to the axis of the first port. The second port is adapted such that any portion of the spark ignition means extending through the second port and into the housing will not interfere with the monitoring performed by the flame detector means. The housing further includes a third port which can accommodate means for visually sighting the pilot flame. The third port can also serve the purpose of providing manual ignition of the pilot burner.

Means is provided for controlling combustion air added to the flue gases when they contain combustible matter and means is provided for sensing the temperature of the combusting waste gases. When a preset temperature is exceeded, additional air is added to reduce the temperature of the gas, but when the temperature falls below the preset point, the burner firing rate is increased and the added air is cut off to insure proper incineration and achieve fuel efficiency.

The burner jet comprises an outer tube and an inner tube, wherein it is possible for combustion gas to be made to flow through the interspace between said two tubes as far as an annular outlet gap in the end region thereof. The flow path for the combustion gas has a bottleneck in the vicinity of the outlet gap. In this way, a compact flame can be achieved, the form of which can be designated “bell-shaped” and which, for a given volume, has a relatively small surface. Although, such a flame has poor CO2 values, the swirl apparatus ensures that the exhaust gas burns in the flame with very low NOx and CO values.

The combustion manifold includes an air-fuel mixing system, a stoichiometric unit, and a refractory unit each coupled to one another. A first combustion stream is established at the air-fuel mixing chamber system as fuel exits an injector device at direction perpendicular to the laminar air intake stream. A laminar air intake stream traveling from the supply input module and along the staging passageway passes through a stoichiometric unit body at a plurality of air intakes to meet with the first combustion stream within to define a second combustion stream for introduction from the stoichiometric unit to the refractory unit. The refractory unit thus defines a third combustion stream as the second combustion stream travels across a refractory passageway.
